Canadians are no more loving of the United States (http://topics.breitbart.com/United+States/) under its current leadership than during George W. Bush's presidency, suggested a poll published Monday.
But they do like President Barack Obama (http://topics.breitbart.com/Barack+Obama/) a whole lot more than his predecessor, said the Historica Dominion Institute survey of 1,018 Canadians.
Obama was viewed favorably by 86 percent of respondents, compared to only 21 percent for Bush in 2005.
"What's striking about these findings is how Canadians have detached their personal view of Barack Obama, whom they quite like and respect, from the United States, which they still view with skepticism, even distrust," said Andrew Cohen, (http://topics.breitbart.com/Andrew+Cohen/) president of the institute.
Compared to results of a similar poll taken four years ago, Canadians have a marginally improved view of Americans as individual people, with 71 percent expressing a favorable view in 2009 versus 68 percent in 2005.
Fewer Canadians (17 percent versus 24 percent in 1995) also said they felt Canadian and American values are diverging.
Canadians were split as to whether the United States is now "a force for good in the world." Forty-four percent agreed while 46 percent disagreed. This question was not asked in 2005.
"There really does appear to be a hardy strain of anti-Americanism in Canada, (http://topics.breitbart.com/Canada/)" Cohen said. "Almost half of us don't believe America is a force for good in the world, even with Obama as president." The survey has a 3.1 percentage point margin of error.
Perhaps if all Americans were copies of Obama?? Clone him perhaps? Does USA population care what Canadians think?

You obviously posted it here so it must have meant something to you...
No one should tell Americans how to run their country, but I'm also getting a wee bit fed up with all the 'if you're not 100% with us your against us'-bullcrap.

They are allowed their own opinion. I quite disagree and would argue the point to no end, but a history book could do the same. There are bad characters in our government, but frankly American politics ends up on every news organization in the world. A little digging and you will find just as many and just as bad people within the Canadian government as well. Americans still want freedom for all more than anything else in this world. It is a shame that loud yet small groups make us look like abusers and users.
As for Obama. They like him because he is a Socialist. America's majority disapproves of virtually every action he has taken so far, and that is because they are blatantly wrong. To Canada Obama looks like the politicians they have seen, and his message of Hope rings real nice when you don't see the reality. For those living in the US, it is clear his message of Hope is really a message of "Hope, I can destroy everything that American is within a single presidency". The fact is intelligent Canadians known that the US and Canada are eternally tied due to geographic and economic realities. In fact, shifts within the political atmosphere of the US has long affected Canada itself, but in a lagged way. When Regan was president all of Europe was far more conservative in their views. It is not surprising that a lack luster president turned Canada off from the US, and I don't see Obama ever helping that.

These opinion polls from other countries about the U.S. do not really matter, unless those countries have capabilities to project their power in foreign policy. For example, China or India's opinions will start to matter very soon for us Americans.
I sometimes forget that there is a large country right next to us called Canada. I wish CNN would do at least 1 story a month on life inside Canada but they don't.

What kind of counter-argument is that ?
The question is clear: Do you see the USA as a force for good in the world ?
Most people do not, for pretty obvious reasons. The US is acting in it's own interests, often unfair and very doubtful. You must be very naive to believe that the US is somekind of international white knight who is out on a mission to protect the innocent.

You must be very naive to assume countries don't act in their own self interests. The US does what it has to do for its interests just like any other country in the world. If someone has time to criticize and complain, then they should also take a proactive approach in finding solutions. Canada has the capacity and capability if it is earnest in making an impact.

Canada has the capacity and capability if it is earnest in making an impact.Canada is, by its very nature, a force of evil. Cold comes from there.
I'm American and don't see the US as inherentely a force of good in the world, too many of our actions worldwide are self-serving and short-sighted to be considered acts of goodness.
At the same time, as someone already said, America isn't the Evil Empire that so many around the world view it as being.
It is simply a country doing what every nation does, watching out for its own best interests. Much of the "evilness" of America isn't America itself, but rather the nature of the beast in a capitalism-driven world economy.
That said, I'd rather have the US as the world superpower as opposed to the alternatives... and capitalism suits me just fine as well.

the poll is a flawed concept anyway, nations are not "good or evil" they just act in their own interests, what i find funny is that because 50% of our population doesn't think the US is running around acting like mother Teresa certain people on here feel so bent out of shape that they start hating on us, saying mean things about our beer! **** you would think we screwed your mom or something... get over it.
p.s. your beer is laughable...

Growing up in Montana near the Canadian border, we got Saskatoon radio.
It sucked, but was better than the Stock and Feed Report the local station carried.
Too much is made of hothead hooligans on either side of the border going for their 5 minutes of fame. We've more in common than we do with just about any other nation.
So there.
But I do admit poking fun at you from time to time is excellent entertainment, most know how to take it and simply quip back.

Canada Dry
Canadian Mist
Windsor Canadian
not to mention it provides a great buffer from the arctic. p-)

My Dad was born in Canadia, therefore it is cool.
Damn Joe. You could have kept that to yourself. I feel like a kid who just found out that his hero isn't all that he's cracked up to be. I don't think I'll ever be able to see you in the same light again.
I am disappoint. :-(

Then why doesn't Canada take a more proactive role in international affairs? After all they are well known for their openness to dialogue, negotiations, peace keeping etc.
If they aren't happy with US actions, then let it flex some muscle for a change.
Kindof like sending 2,860 troops to Afghanistan's most dangerous province??
I'm surprised American's actually care what we think, let alone that half of us don't think you're a force of positive change. Good to hear.

Yah but according to EBK we were all just standing around with our collective thumbs up our collective asses waiting on his august appearance as a killer of Baboos......
The poll is ****e. I can get 1/2 the poulation of this Country (or any other for that matter) to say their Mother's aren't a force for good. They're Sheeple for Gawds sake.

but we would still hide your diplomats in our embassy, take in your stranded airline passengers, send troops to help you when scumbags attack, send people to help during natural disasters.. it's what friends do ;)
All that needs to be said.^^^
There are always gonna be a few American's that dislike Canada and visa-versa. But this poll is flawed. I can guarantee that most of Canadians like the US.

Honestly not that interesting we do all the same stuff. However most of our routines involve Hockey, Beer, Marijuana and work/school. With the a few rounds of golf in the summer.
However you may not think we have anything up on you but you would be mistaken. You see roughly 60% of your Petroleum comes from Canada we could literally just shut off the gas. Your war machine would be imobilized and the ones who could help you most likely won't. Same with water we have like 30% of the worlds fresh water and less then 1% of the population. We could turn that off and watch the parts of America crumble.
Don't under estimate Canada at any point we have a good hand to play. We are your strongest ally however we could easily become your worst nightmare. Trying invading us and you would have an insurgency of some of the most highly educated and best trained people. Not to mention some of the most patriotic people you will ever meet.
All of my grandparents were born there too. :) Spoke French and everything.

i think a lot of that lately is due to our health care system being used by both sides in the debate south of the border as an example (either good or evil)
this is what i meant when i jokingly said I like Americans best when they forget we are here

You obviously posted it here so it must have meant something to you...
No one should tell Americans how to run their country, but I'm also getting a wee bit fed up with all the 'if you're not 100% with us your against us'-bullcrap.
I'm sensing you're not with us...
America and Canada are like cousins who rarely see each other then complain about each other when they do.

I wrote in jest. As did you by the looks of it.
I truly like visiting Canada but won't with the ridiculous over and back rules enforced by Department of Hilarity and Silliness. With my luck the Crayola color code would turn to red and the border would be closed with me stuck in Canada. On second thought....
