hopefully it´s not finding its way into Czech armed forces... nothing more than M-16 system in railed Sa-58 body. But to some generals, it may look really good ´cause it´s all shiny. I say again to SOME generals, fortunately. I would go with SCAR, it has well placed charging handle and PISTON, my god.
The s805 does not have much of VZ.58 body, it is all plastic and totally different configuration too!!!
And please explain how does the s805 design compare to the "M-16 system"?
...besides, it might find its way into CZ Army not because it will appear all shiny to generals, but rather because it is opportunity to milk the cow again and assign multimillion EUR contract to get some kick-back into politicians pockets. Hence the massive give away of Vz.58's and millions of rounds of ammo to Afghanistan in recent years. Depleting CZ Army reserves, so they can claim that CZ Army unconditionally "needs" new weapons.

Well, it has a lot of Sa-58, except its reliability... this one has 10 percent failure rate. It poses same bolt system as M4, no piston. It means that this new weapon has old bolt, nothing like HK416/417, but like M4. This system is unreliable and even US is looking for new weapons. And there is no "massive" giveaway of Sa-58 to afghanistan, actually czech army is selling its brand never used supplies of Sa-58 back to CZ, one per 700 CZK. Call them if you don´t believe me:|

Project CZ S 805 A
This is a project of weapon for the 21st century soldier. Modular design of the weapon enables simple changing of the caliber, at the moment are
available calibers 5,56x45NATO, 7,62x39 a 6,8 x 43.
Three barrel lengths are available in each caliber, enabling to build a classic rifle, a carbine or a short compact gun. This increases users comfort.
The weapon utilizes a standard breech system with a rotating bolt powered by hot gases from the barrel by means of a piston.
If needed, the weapon can be turned by rotating of the gas cylinder into a true manual repeater, with all advantages of such a weapon for a sniper.
By simple replacement of the magazine well it is possible to utilize in the
weapon different kinds of magazines.
The weapon can be fired in all shooting positions and modes, i.e. in a single
shot, limited two shot burst and full automatic mode (long burst).
Folding stock can be adjusted lengthwise, providing a shooting comfort to
shooters of all statures.
The stock can be removed from the weapon entirely while maintaining full operation of the weapon. Weapon in such a configuration is
significantly shorter and can mounted on vehicles or used as a port * firing weapon.
The weapon was designed upon requirement of a Czech weapons producing company. Our company made a full technical documentation and
first prototypes of the weapon.

What exactly does the S805 share with Vz.58 design? Please elaborate.
I have not seen the S805 design drawings so I can not discuss how much is the bolt design similar to AR-15 / M-16 / M4 design. Maybe you can elaborate further, or direct me to a drawing?
Piston-less system does not necessarily mean it is same as AR-15. For example the Sturmgewehr 44, its CETME derivatives and finally the H K G3 delayed blowback designs are also not using a piston.
As of the 700 CZK sellout, it does not contradict what I described as give-away, in fact it have practically the same effect. 700 CZK is nothing and it is yet another way how to speed up the riddance of Vz.58 in CZ Army storage. Is it a good thing? I do not know, but I personally suspect it to be just an excuse to get the new weapons developed and procured for state money. Lets face it - in this day and age, with still decreasing number of active duty personnel / staff of CZ Army, it does not make economic sense to domestically develop an un-competetive system. There is not much of a chance we could succeed to sell it for PROFIT to another countries. Just like the L-159 story all over again... Just my opinion, of course. Maybe you can enlighten me if the facts are different.

Czech Army is already testing ČZ S805, ČZ S805 project was cofinanced by Ministry of Industry as well and made in cooperation with the army...
Czech Army annouced a month ago plan to buy new assault rifle system for 2 milliard Czech Crowns in 2010-2014 years, it means only one - completely rearming of whole army and minister Barták said (http://www.ct24.cz/domaci/policie-armada/71257-ministerstvo-obrany-chce-koupit-rucni-zbrane-od-ceske-firmy/) - we will prefer Czech made weapons...

Ministers come and ministers go. Please do not get me wrong, it is not that I am not wishing a success to CZ UB company, or that I am against CZ Army having quality equipment. But we all know that government contracts (not only military) are decided rather by political interests than rationale best suiting the final user - in this case the CZ Army.
CZ UB is fully private-owned enterprise for few years now, although it have great heritage of state owned armory providing our own army with quality weapons. For armed forces as small as ours would be more economical to buy off-the-shelves product instead of co-financing the R&D. The contract could be arranged that the selected firearms will be produced under license by CZ UB to maintain the employment in CZ UB.
And of course, the main question is whether the CZ Army absolutely positively needs the rearming righty now?
