Representatives for ACORN sued the federal government Thursday morning in an attempt to regain the millions of dollars in funding the community organizing group lost after filmmakers videotaped its workers offering advice on how to commit tax fraud and various other felonies.

The suit charges Congress with violating the Constitution when it passed legislation in September that specifically targeted ACORN to lose federal housing, education and transportation funds.

That qualifies the legislation as bills of attainder, according to the Center for Constitutional Rights, which filed the suit on behalf of ACORN. A bill of attainder punishes a person or group without the benefit of a trial, and is illegal under Article 1 of the Constitution.

I dont know where they think they will go with this. It will only polarize people and leave even a worse mark on those inbetween.

I remember reading an article that stated that while Congress has cut off funding for ACORN, they have started back up (slowly and quietly)

I had heard it was only a temporary cut in funding. SO I doubt we will see these a-holes go away any time soon, considering they have their Numero Uno Community Organiser in Chief in place.

Can all of us get together and sue ACORN for misuse of public funds?

The welfare mentaility is like a crack addiction. Once these asshats started receiving taxpayer money they came to believe they had a Constitutional right to it no matter what they did.

Well considering that "Welfare" and "Wealth Sharing" is the platform Obama ran on, and won with, there are more assmuchers. Where the top 25% pay 86% of the taxes (and the top 50% pay 97.11%) http://www.ntu.org/main/page.php?PageID=6
It is a system that can not survive.

"A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world's greatest civilizations has been 200 years."
— Alexis de Tocqueville (http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/465.Alexis_de_Tocqueville)

I think the quote may be misattributed to de Tocqueville, but the sentiment stands.

Three universal problems a democracy must address. Those problems include: (1) limits for majority rule; (2) limits for personal liberty and the power of government; and (3) limits for positive rights

Every silver tongued politician knows that only way to win elections is to promise ever more freebies. Its the death spiral which is almost impossible to reverse. Europe is trying to reverse it by granting powers to a distant ruler (EU president) who can in turn be the fall guy for reluctance of national governments to grant ever more freebies. In US such ideas are currently anathema but time is not too far when some fall guy would be needed for politicians to start saying no to millions of freebie hungry voters.

I didnt say "Democracy" cant survive, because what we have is not a democracy. America is a Republic and the tax system is definitely not democratic.

Maybe the AF can sue over the loss of funds for the F-22.

Yes, I was quoting; I understand the difference between a democracy and a republic. I was merely pointing out that with ever more power accruing at the federal level (especially the ability to tax the wealthy) it is not inconceivable that the left wing gets enough votes make the sytem unsustainable. That's what I thought your point was.

Exactly. Any gov't program that was ever cut should be resurrected since clearly it was unconstitutionally eliminated.
