The popular doll — played with by girls all over the world — has been kitted out in the traditional Islamic women's dress as part of a new exhibition.

More than 500 black Barbies have been dressed up in unique garments by Italian designer Eliana Lorena — in a project backed by makers Mattel on the iconic doll's 50th anniversary.

Britain's biggest Barbie fan Angela Ellis said of the show: "Bring it on Burka Barbie, I think this is a great idea."

The 35-year-old from Cheshire — who has a collection of more than 250 dolls — added: "I think this is really important for girls, wherever they are from they should have the opportunity to play with a Barbie that they feel represents them."

It would be great if it was a matter of tolerance/ accepting , an attempt to communicate with other cultures ( Muslims/Hindu etc ) . But I believe this is not the real case , its just the MONEY thing ..

These People will flirt and kiss the a$$ of Taliban/Qaeda to make more money :) , Look at Taliban dresses in the picture above ( red/green ones ) which are actually not popular/known for in most of Muslims/ME Countries ..

No but seriously, the more controversial a subject is, the more exotic it becomes to some people and of course taboo subjects often arouse high degree of ****** interest. We've seen nurses uniforms, school girl uniforms, teachers, and even nun's clothing in ****** themes. It's only a matter of time when the burkha also gets involved.

Last few years In ME there was a big campaign to boycott the western Barbie . I beleive the campaign most probably was ran secretly by competitor company ( FULLA ) who use the religion/policy as excuse to replace Barbie with their own product ( Fulla - See the picture below ) .

They made the MUSLEM version of Barbie that became very popular in the ME religious conservative market .

I think Barbie comp learned the lesson very well , and this is just a start to go back to the ME market again ..

As I said , its just the money thing even if they promote/market their Barbie to Taliban them-self :)
