Hallo

In Osprey's US Army Combat Equipments 1910-88, i noticed the plate with Contras Field Pack (4)

Gordon Rottman describe this pack in simple words:"simple two-compartment combat field pack was developed for use by the Contras in the early 1980s and subsequently adopted by the Army for limited issue"

I found also one photo of Contras fighter and his contras pack.

Do you think that pack from osprey's plate and pack from photo above are the same type o field pack?
Have you got any other photos of contras field pack?

I remember Brigade Quartermaster had the Contras Field Pack for sale in their catalog in the late '80s.

I had one for about 10 years. It was in Woodland nylon, very much like a M1936 Musette bag in styling. several other guys in My Platoon had them in O.D. and some other NCO's in Woodland as well.

Supply Sergeant handed them out in 1986?

There was a Main compartment and then the front had two flat pockets good for MRE envelopes. Also had 2 runners you could attach stuff with alice clips on the side. The Nylon was pretty tough, never had a rip, even carried a PRC-77 in it once.

Wish to hell I could remember what I did with it, I think I gave it away to an FNG.

I still have #6 AND #5. I use #6 for camping. Still works.

Hmm, I've never heard of this pack, it's not even listed in ALICE gear manuals. Do you remember the official name of it, that was on the stamp?

Damn spiffy. I take it it's impossible to find one anymore? Would make a great daypack.
