Soldiers of the 101st Airborne investigate the burning wreckage of a speeding civilian truck that tried to run at high speed through a US Army vehicle checkpoint July 26, 2003 in Mosul, Iraq. Three persons inside the truck were killed when soldiers opened fire on the truck, another wounded by gunfire and evacuated by air to a local hospital. It is still unclear why the truck tried to run the checkpoint without stopping, no American soldiers were wounded in the incident. Soldiers from the 101st continue to conduct presence patrols and random vehicle checkpoints throughout the Mosul area in order to reduce the number of attacks on American troops there and to improve overall security in the area.
