Actually , the Russians have a very similar "chocolate chip" 6 - color desert pattern as the US had in use.

mmm... the stew looks good.

As for the muffle, sometimes wearing that is better than a hemlet. It doesn't offer protection but it is weightless and provides a means of camo. It acts a sponge in soaking the sweat. Also it is more freely to look up than wearing a hat or a helmet.

Actually I've seen photos of US soldiers doing similar things. It’s to stay warm or simply sleeping space is no longer available. I would bet Chechnya is cold place. Plus to men of war things like this no longer matter, they are brothers.

12 and 13 year old kids talk about things they don't like being "gay" here in New Zealand. When I ask them why they think this or that looks homo****** they say they don't mean gay they mean strange, weird or different.
In fact they are often showing their ignorance.
