From ARES:

The Army has begun fielding 500,000 of a projected 7 million new 5.56mm 30-round Improved Magazines for the service’s fleet of M16 and M4 weapons that PEO Soldier says (http://peosoldier.armylive.dodlive.mil/2009/12/14/armys-improved-magazine-increases-weapons-reliability-%E2%80%9Ctan-is-the-plan%E2%80%9D-for-the-new-magazine/) will deliver “a significant increase in reliability for the battle-tested M16 and M4 weapons systems…the Improved Magazine effectively reduces the risk of magazine-related stoppages by more than 50 percent compared to the older magazine variants."

Why did they spend money designing this bull**** instead of just buying PMAGs (which lots of Soldiers, Marines, etc. are buying out of their own pockets...)?

I don't see the difference to a normal mag in that video??

It's basically just an improved spring and non-tilting follower.
The rest is reused 'old' parts.

“Soldiers can remember it like this: ‘Tan – is the plan. Green – start to lean. Black – take it back,’”

PEO got Jay-Z working for them now?

PEO Soldier, who brought us the Velcro wonder known as the ACU, the 5th Ave. Doorman Blues (ASU), and this.

Looking at the Magazine design all I can think is Magpul followers, Cp. Liberty PX 2004.

I'm convinced PEO Soldier is filled with retards with Good Idea Fairies on their shoulders.

PEO is just now realizing that Soldiers are no longer using the green LBE suspenders with dual mag pouches and canteens.

you know for some reason I can picture that. Thank god for my overactive imagination

And within a few weeks we'll hear stories about the bottom of the mags popping out if you put over 20 rounds in them.

The bottom of my 20 rounders pop out if I put more than 20 rounds in them...

So if you try to overload your 20 round magazine the bottom pops out.. congrats...

Keeper0311 was referring to putting in 20 rounds into a 30 round mag an it would probably break, etc.

Yes. I understood what he was saying. But thankyou for clarifying regardless.

For the record, I had some Bushmaster 30 rounders that would do the same thing, ie: 18-20 rounds, then break.

I love how the computer simulation fires the entire bullet (with casing attached) through the barrel.

wait.....how do your bullets shoot then?

but srsly. I think linedoggie had it right, magpul enhanced followers, which I think is what the USMC is moving towards?(FWIW) But this is like when we were issued combat loads of the HK mags, yah they are all fancy and stuff, corrosion resistance(not), but why did they really have to spend the money on those, when for the most part, the normal USGI's we had worked just as well, and pmags were working better. Who knows, I liked them though, sealzcoolguyfactor.

Remember these are the people that chose this POS to replace the IOTV:

You'd think that since the high speed guys use the CIRAS they'd just get the CIRAS, or even adopt the SPC from the USMC...but no they have to waste money and give us crap in return.

I love how computer animation never takes into account sand, and all the other crap the can foul a magazine. Buy the Pmags and be done with it.

Quoted for being good advise.

Honestly, this seems just like the Plate carrier, M4 improvements, and UCP-D; all are just attempts to "in house" replicate what the commercial market has had for years. Why the f@#k don't they just skip the middle man, and buy the damn commercial stuff?

think I will just take my Garand

hasn't failed my dad or me in over....well 2000 rounds for me anyway... 8 shots every time, all the time!

Garands are good weapons but in urban areas they are limiting. It really sucks when you need the ammo and you hear the "pling" of the clip popping out of the rifle.

I dunno I would take the Garand's limiting to the M-4's jamming and lack of takedown any day!

at least I can adapt and adjust to the limiting aspects...

This system looks just like the one made by magpul

I wonder if they have licensed the technology from magpul.

I never heard anyone shot with 5.56 complain about lack of take down:roll:

Perhaps because these upgrade kits are less expensive, and PMAGs, while good, aren't always what they're cracked up to be.

SF loves them..because you know..they don't have to sit at CP's for 12 hours a day and wait to get sniped.

I like their .308 mag-fed Mini. It's a unique piece, but not really a niche-filler. Maybe a killer trunk rifle...
