Righto, so I downloaded a while back a pdf file about DEVGRU and the failed hit on Harmid Karzai.
Anywho, I was flicking thru photos, and came upon this one:
http://cantwell.senate.gov/photos/codel/special_forces.jpg
The guy in the centre rear with the beard was in the pdf file. It stated that he was delta. Now I am only basing this on the pdf file so it isn't real credible. Thoughts?

Who cares!
Whether he is or isn't, I'm sure he and everyone in that picture would prefer you don't post it.

True that it really doesn't matter.
It is 2:35am and I am bored.
However I just remembered the guys face, and needed to know where I had seen it before.
Also if you want to bitch to me about posting the pic, I found it on a Senators website. (right click on picture, then properties for link)

My thoughts on the matter are, who gives a flying ****?
Hes a service member, serving his country for the good of the world, whatever he does, good on him.

If you remember Shreks (coveted D-Boys) pics, you will notice a familiarity.
I will not say anymore.

Several of the guys in the group are SF (ex and current) but I honestly don't recognize the guy in the back. I think I know what you mean, but the guy that I know that looks like him we called Bear (not to his face) and that is not him.
I think this is a group of Dyncorp employees! I know at least one of the people in the pic is a Dyncorp employee.
Hope this helps!!

The second row, from left to right, are US Senators Maria Cantwell (D-WA), Lindsey Graham (R-SC), John McCain (R-AZ), Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX) and John Sununu (R-NH). They went to Afghanistan in August 2003.

Pff, its not easy to identify the D-Boys.
But here comes the suprise: The only Delta in this Photo is the woman in the middle with the white shirt. Deltas are always stealthy !

some of these guys are SF, some of the guys are DSS, some of the guys are capitol police and the rest i don't recognize. DevGru had the Karzi detail for a while and then DS took it over with the help of DynCorp.

Yeah thats the one. It was in the DEVGRU article out of SOF magazine about the Karzai attempted hit. It stated these dudes were Delta.
Does it really matter if they are or not?
No.
Is it interesting to discuss?
To a point.
Both those guys look like they're looking at the same thing. I wonder what..?

Must of been a high priority prisioner.
I dont understand the whole "delta" thing, like, are you selected from other SF, or serving members of current SF teams simply ask to join, and have to go through a selection course, simlilar to SAS selection?
Confuses the **** out of me, and yeah, i dont think many of you could answer these questions.

Anyone! Let me repeat, anyone with a set of basic qualifications can at least try out for Delta. There is of course a very stringent medical exam, clearance issues, past military history, psych evaluation and of course a physical fitness test that would kill an average man. Then, you go to the beautiful mountains of West Virginia for Deltas (CAG) version of selection.
The easiest way to get in is to be recommended by someone already in or that is ex-CAG, or someone with some clout in the SpecOp community. Some people are asked to join because of certain specialties that they may have, language, appearance, sniper skills, etc. You do not have to be ex-SF (note that I said HAVE to be) but most are. Other services i.e. Marines etc. are eligible. Although in the past they were on the do-not-exist list, they always have and have always been paid for through SOCOM funds. The secret squirrel stuff just added to their mystic.

Dear Frieds; after looking at the first photo, I am almost sure that those guys are not from Delta (although who can say they are not) but if you see the first operator from the right, his body armor has a patch with the legend "Diplomatic Security Service".
So most probably these are from the DSS MSD.
My 5 cents.

The caption to the picture that started this thread:

Sen. Maria Cantwell, standing at left in middle row, stands with other members of a congressional delegation and their close protection security detail on a recent trip to visit the Middle East and Asia, in this Aug., 2003, handout photo. Cantwell, a Washington state Democrat, returned to the nation's capital Tuesday night, Aug. 26, after the 10-day trip. She and other members of Congress were in Baghdad Aug. 19 when a truck bomb ripped through the United Nations headquarters there, killing at least 23 people, including the chief U.N. envoy. Cantwell had been scheduled to meet that day with the official, Sergio Vieira de Mello of Brazil. She was not injured in the blast.
