I reckon they need more "green" ops.
They're always either in Hostage Rescue, anti terrorist etc.
they should have ops where they go abroad a little more.
Where have they had an episode other then the uk?
-Northern Ireland (but still in the UK)
-Bosnia
-Georgia
-France (briefly)
and that's it!

There was more than a pinch of salt with this one........more like a Siberian Salt mine!
It was a load of bollocks,in relation to SOP's but good entertainment value !

That was just far too extreme Martin, what a complete load of crap, why would Henno do that unless he was "Clinicaly Insane",giving him a fuc*ing good kicking back at Hereford would be more appropriate!
I hate to think what he'll do to Pete's wife!!

Absolute ****. But comical!
Almost as true to the SAS as London's Burning is to the Fire Service.
Best Ultimate Force line ever: "Get in the lorry boys"
 'kin "lorry" :D

It was better than soldier soldier

The best line is in the first episode
"Alright, Who shot the telly!?"
"I did"
"Why"
"It was Richard Whitely. I considered him a threat and used appropriate force"
"Fair enough"

I admit it was very unrealistic as well, but i thought Louie was extreamly funny, in the second episode in the second series when they were on the indoor ranges, that was unforgetable!

The best line was "I dont care if rolling up on civilians in tanks looks bad on TV it sure makes you feel alot safer when your being shot at."
One of my colleagues spent many years in the Regiment before leaving and joining the police. He is appalled and embarassed by Ultimate Force, he said a while ago that anyone who thinks it represents anything near realistic life/action in the Regiment "Wants their f**king head examining". He constantly goes on about the technical inaccuracies, apparantly nearly all the "training" methods shown are embelished/false, as to show the real methods could put the real life lads in danger. Even though Chris Ryan advised on the series, the majority of what is shown is "BS". Ultimate Force is just brainless violence for the tabloid generation at the end of the day.

And then we had some jelly and we had some ice cream and then we to the park and I played on the swings and went on the roundabout and mummy gave me a lolly and read me a story before I went to bed and I had a nice dream.

Proves the point I made a while back that old andrew45c doesn't really have a clue.
To be honest Gordon, I agree. Anyone who thinks Ultimate Force is realistic and also creates polls with titles such as (real poor grammar left in for effect)..........
"Which of these countrys has a better camo scheme"
"Which of these is better (proffesional, experienced, training,"
...........is either a retard, a child, or both.

In a way it was "ok". wasn't the best military TV type programme I've ever seen. I have the first series on DVD. I know that Chris Ryan provided technical assistance for the drama but I noticed quite a few technical adaqencies in many of the episodes. There are quite a few things I would have done differently. A lot of the episodes were Counter-terrorist ops involving building assaults within the UK. I would of liked to have seen them going to foreign locations and doing more variety in the ops.

Retard, if I am not mistaken you are the one resorting to petty insults this thread and all other ones i have made are ment to be light hearted stuff and if you cant lighten up a bit then piss off from my threads. If i ever need your opinion on anything ill ask for it. And as to ultimate force it might not be totally realistic but its good entertainment.
I no this makes me no better than you but **** OFF PRICK.

Got you a bit riled did he. Tell me, out of interest, I take it the 45c part stands for 45 Commando. Does this mean you're presently a member of 45 Commando, have been, or want to be?

Andrew instead of trying to insult someone who's BTDT,try accepting that the programme is pure fiction, and in no way represents any Unit, never mind 22 SAS,it's insulting if you think there's any realism involved.
Point 1.Red Troop...A troop consists of 25-30 men.......not 5,that's not even a section
Point 2.Armed incidents within the UK are dealt with by SO13,unless the Military have a vested interest. There have been very very few incidents that required the SAS intervention in the last 10 years, that Authorisation requires the PM's signature.
Once you actually start basic, you'll see that it's a load of crap, but good entertainment value only, resorting to insults, shows a lack of maturity, something you'll need in the Corp, otherwise you'll end up wondering where it all went wrong!
I wish you all the success in your taining,be positive, keep your mouth shut, keep your opinions to yourself, listen to what your section Commander tells you, don't argue, accept orders never question, work as a team and you'll be fine!

Gotta agree with ya on that one. Why the f**k have they only got 5 men?!

Would the SAS transfer ppl from troop to troop if one was very undermanned?

Would it also require the signitures from COBR?

Argyll is right in everything he says (with one small exception);
A troop in UKSF is in theory 1+15 ie 16 men. In reality it's usually closer to 10-12.
Argyll
08-04-2003, 09:17 AM
I'm not sure, about COBRA,my understanding is that the Police hand over to the Military when there is zero option, but that handover must be sactioned by the PM,his/her word is final!
Also Red troop/Blue troop, are what used to be called Pagoda troop, which is when the Squadrons rotate ,their CT duties, and the active troop is known as Red/Blue rather than Air Mobility,Boat troop,or Mountain tooop and so on.
5 men are pretty short of a section/Patrol(8 men) too!!!!
Argyll
08-04-2003, 09:24 AM
Royal,
Must be pretty short in operators then?
Troops, are they not the same structures as Platoons as such?
I was under the impression a Sabre squadron was approx 100-120 men, that would give 3/4 troops per Squadron at 30/40 men respectively
I know that 22 are not at full Bn strength(700+),but then again there are shortages throughout the UKLF,but sitting around the 500 mark if you include R squadron?
Gringo
08-04-2003, 09:51 AM
I thought it went
- 4 men in a patrol
- 4 patrols in a troop (16 men)
- 4 troops in a squadron (64 men)
- 4 squadrons in the regiment (256 men)
and then they maybe be undermanned.
Royal

Screaming Eagle has the basic structure for the Regiment, although each Squadron also has a signals troop, as well as other badged and non-badged add-ons (OC, 2 i/c, SSM, SQMS, clerk, medic, etc...). At Regimental level there are also similar add-ons (Training Wing, Education Staff, MT, QM's, Int Cell etc...).
So your number depends on whether you include non-badged pax, and whether you include badged pax in non-combat roles...
And yes, they're under strength.
Argyll
08-04-2003, 11:41 AM
Royal,
I thought OC;s and 2ics were badged officers, along with people such as SQMS's,SSM etc,,I was under the impression that ALL SNCO's within the regiment were all "badged " members, from the Squadrons that is,and that signals were also badged,as they too have to go through selection!
Training wings etc,are typically run by the best or in some Regiments the worst SNCO's,I'd find it hard to belive that there are a lot of non Badged personnel, trying to train the best of the best!
Royal
08-04-2003, 11:47 AM
Sorry, I wasn't clear.
Yes, all OC's and most of the Q staff are badged.
The Sigs Squadron have their own selection and are basic para trained, but they are not badged SF. Many do however go on to pass selection after some experience working with the Regiment.
You'd be amazed at the number of non badged pax (from Education Officers and Green Slime through Physiotherapists, to REME guys and Medics) floating around.
The same is true at Poole.

Just being the picky old stickler I am but it's SO19 that handle firearms incidents within the M25 I believe. SO13 are the Met's investigatory Anti Terrorist Branch who I do believe have a nationwide remit.
CX20 will know better than me...

Just out of couriosity, what is the etymology of "PONTI's"? Is it anything like the American "REMF"(Rear-Echelon MotherF***er)?
