View Full Version : turns out that Israel did in fact harvest organs
remember that afton bladet story from 2004 that alleged the Isrealis had harvested palestinian body parts? Isreal's knee jerk reaction at the time was to call the Swedes anti-semites. looks like it was all true. howeverr, not that it makes any difference they weren't exclusively harvesting pali organs, they we're also harvesting from fallen idf soldiers.
In a response to the TV report, the Israeli military confirmed that the practice took place. "This activity ended a decade ago and does not happen any longer," the military said in a statement quoted by Channel 2.
In the interview, Hiss described how his doctors would mask the removal of corneas from bodies. "We'd glue the eyelid shut," he said. "We wouldn't take corneas from families we knew would open the eyelids."

OK in these news the military claims they asked permission from the families before harvesting the organs, and if they are lying then they acted against the Israeli law and will be investigated, I still don't see a problem.

Let me get this streight
1. Iran's state-run Press TV reported the story, illustrated with photographs of dead or badly injured Palestinians.
2. Ahmed Tibi, an Israeli Arab MP in an anti-Israeli party, who also used to be Yasser Arrafat's advisor, said the report incriminated the Israeli army.
3. there was no evidence that Israel had killed Palestinians to take their organs, as the Swedish paper reported.
4. Nancy Sheppard-Hughes, professor of anthropology at the University of California-Berkeley who had conducted a study of Abu Kabir felt the interview must be made public, because "the symbolism, you know, of taking skin of the population considered to be the enemy, [is] something, just in terms of its symbolic weight, that has to be reconsidered."
and from this you conclude that Israel did in fact harvest organs.

AN ISRAELI harvested organs. ISRAEL did not do this.
He mostly, by far, harvested organs from ISRAELIS.
He has since been removed from his position.
This was a news story a half a decade ago.
The quote from the military is ridiculous. They had absolutely nothing to do with the allegations. They were only contacted in the article to falsely implicate them. It would be tantamount to calling an FBI spokesman, asking him if racketeering has occurred this year, and then throwing in your article, "The Federal Bureau of Investigation admits to the racketeering scheme."
Nancy Scheper-Hughes (excellent research on the spelling, AP/Guardian) dug up an old story specifically with the intent to defame Israel, which as a state entity, did absolutely nothing wrong.
Nancy is a self-described "radical anthropologist" who explicitly believes you should bend the study of anthropology for political means. http://anthropology.berkeley.edu/nsh.html Enjoy some perusal.
There is no accusation that Palestinians were killed, abducted, or otherwise in order for these organs to be obtained. As a matter of fact, most of the organs came from Israelis. It had absolutely nothing to do with ethnicity.
Finally, this is the sort of thing a lot of doctors (not necessarily most) are comfortable with. After gross anatomy class, they don't really view corpses as much more than hunks of meat -- and if those hunks of meat can be used to help the living, they should. Not to say I agree with these actions.
But frankly, BodyWorlds is a far, far more egregious violation. But he's not Israeli ...
Finally, imagine such a headline:
THE UNITED STATES BLOCKS PAY RAISES FOR AFRICAN AMERICANS
-And in the article you find out actually, it wasn't the United States, but a particular company that had a pay freeze.
-Then you find out that it was all the employees of said company, a minority of which were black.
-Then you find a quote from a Berkeley anthropologist saying that even though the pay freeze had nothing to do with race, the fact that blacks are historically oppressed makes THEIR pay freeze a more interesting narrative.

Illegal organ harvesting is not new and has allegedly occurred in the UK, Israel, USA, Russia, China and the Ukraine I doubt however that Israeli troops are whacking fine young specimens for hearts and livers.

I hope the professor also consider the symbolism of the fvcking terrorists treated in Israeli hospitals next to their victims, benefiting from all the Israeli Healthcare system resources, sometimes - guess fvcking what - the organs' bank (which, well, contains those donated by the relatives of the terrorists' victims). To all interested I suggest to watch a great documentary made during Intifada by a Dutch filmmaker:

Dutch filmmaker Ramon Gieling directs the documentary Welcome to Hadassah Hospital, a close look at the infamous Jerusalem care facility. This digital video feature gives a voice to both Jewish and Arab caregivers who treat Israeli and Palestinian patients in the same hospital, and includes commentary from Dr. Avi Rivkind. Welcome to Hadassah Hospital was shown at the 2003 Human Rights Watch Festival. ~ Andrea LeVasseur, All Movie Guide

No, let's focus on the negative, right?
My former post was response to the Nimdod quoted interview, not just an positive example brought for the sole purpose to counterbalance a negative one. Stop making moronic out-of-context deductions.

Israel (http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/israel) has admitted that pathologists harvested organs from dead Palestinians, and others without the consent of their families – a practice that it said ended in the 1990s, it emerged at the weekend.
The story emerged in an interview with Dr Yehuda Hiss, former head of the Abu Kabir forensic institute near Tel Aviv. The interview was conducted in 2000 by an American academic who released it because of the row between Israel and Sweden over a report in the Stockholm newspaper Aftonbladet.

And again, as it already was pointed out on this thread - there is no connections between this case and the Swedish newspaper reported conspiracy to kill Palestinians for their organs, as it is implied by the thread topic.
Channel 2 TV reported that in the 1990s, specialists at Abu Kabir harvested skin, corneas, heart valves and bones from the bodies of Israeli soldiers, Israeli citizens, Palestinians and foreign workers, often without permission from relatives.
.............
However, there was no evidence that Israel had killed Palestinians to take their organs, as the Swedish paper reported
Apparently, there is a difference between murder of innocent people in order to make many out of their organs and unauthorized use of organs taken during autopsy for the institute's purposes, however illegal or immoral it might be.
I still don't understand why this case made to the news in the context of that idiotic conspiracy, and why now. The case has been known for a while now in Israel after professor Hiss was sued by relatives of one of the deceased operated in the institute. Frankly, I don't understand why he and other responsible are not in jail, since they clearly broke the law.

It doesn't matter since the average reader is not reading more than the article's headline.
facts be damned...
And even if he does, he wouldn't know about the organ theft by Professor Hiss that happened more than 10 years ago, mostly from Israeli citizens.
