GAZA, Dec 22 (*******) - Hamas and other militant groups called on Egypt on Tuesday to stop building a steel wall along the Gaza border that could block tunnels through which goods and weapons are smuggled into the blockaded Palestinian enclave.
"Hamas sees the continued building of the wall as unjustified and it will bring catastrophe on the Palestinian people, Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri told a news conference, where the group and other factions urged Cairo to end the project.
Egyptian officials have said steel tubes were being placed in the ground at several points along the 14-km (8-mile)-long border, but they did not specify their purpose.
Palestinians fear a steel barrier, deep underground, would limit or end smuggling through hundreds of tunnels operating in defiance of a three-year-old Israeli-led blockade of the territory ruled by Hamas Islamists opposed to peace with Israel.
Last week, a Palestinian gunman fired at an Egyptian bulldozer at the border, causing damage but no injuries.
Egypt rushed reinforcements to the scene and Hamas assured Cairo it would prevent any further such incidents, officials said.Article continued at http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/LDE5BL0N8.htm

Oh, now these bastards are playing the role of victims, they were the ones who brought this situtation upon themselves in the first place, and now they're bitching about it. I hope Israel succeeds in killing every single one of them.

Even the Arabs want to fence in Hamas.
Does anyone have an idea of how Israel intends for the blockade to play out? Hamas are unlikely to disappear.

Hamas will not be able to deploy their propaganda machine against Egypt as well as they do against Israel.

Quite likely HAMAS will alter it's political stance regarding Israel. It is well placed to take over the territories/West Bank from the PA. We recently saw significant financial support for the PA, something HAMAS would like as it would represent political legitimacy.
HAMAS is a political animal and it will evolve to suit circumstances.

Abbas without Israel would lose the West Bank along time ago. He needs to thank us every day that he controls the West Bank and i dont care if Hamas will have more power in the West Bank(i dont see any difference between Hamas and Fatah ,Fatah is even worse-they killed more jews then Hamas if someone here doesnt know)as long as our military is there.

Egypt had had it with Hamas - especially after a soldier was murdered on the border last week. They are sympathetic to Fatah. Take Hamas out of the equation, it all goes back to the status quo. Egypt has a right to protect and close their border. Has never stopped the Palestinians from digging under it! Let Hamas whine and whinge all they want - Israel is happy (and me too) to see them all implode against each other.

Hay guyz teh Egyptians r building an apatheid wall of evil too!!!
Now seriously, is it any surprise that Hamas doesn't like this new wall?
I wonder if Hamas could use Jordan if they took over the west bank in the same way they used Egypt?
Would be hilarious if the Jordanians will eventually build a wall too. Fenced off on all sides! Of course even in such a case only the Israeli wall will be the target of protests.

I wonder what was more pivotal to the Egyptians when deciding whether to build the wall.
Keeping smugglers out of the Gaza Strip or keeping the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

A combination of both i imagine. Either one doesn't benefit egypt.
