Every Hollywood "thriller" is a swipe at the establishment... Be it the Illuminati, corrupt police, the gung-ho military vs. unknown prehistoric monsters....

More of a swipe at colonialism than anything, that and the soldiers were PMCs, not part of any national army.

This whole discussion is unnecessary. Pretty much anyone with any form of media outlet use it to propagate their views. South Park is libertarian, Family Guy is liberal, Avatar is against the war in Iraq. I bet if any of you have written something, like a novel, it could be interpret as propaganda for some cause.
Some people even proclaim it is "telling people to join the terrorists and fight against the US". Seriously, if you decide to join Al Qaida because you saw Avatar, then there probably wasn't much hope for you to begin with.
It's a swipe at war itself and a swipe at a long human history of colonialism, but I don't see a direct swipe at the US military in particular. The writer/director's has said he admires the military and his brother was a US Marine. The main character was a US Marine and he's shown to be a noble dude.

Nonsense. This movie is nowhere any different then what we were fed as children already. A good and healthy message for preservation and respect against agression and ignorance, commercialism and emperialism can't be repeated often enough. That the world has become a much more cynical place where death and killings are more highly praised and demanded then good old fashioned compassion and doing the "right" thing is not the fault of the movie. To consider such a message "propagandistic" shows how much the standarts have dropped already.
Those that see it as a swipe at the US army should seriously reconsider how they prioritize it's role.

It's because the color blue is anti-military.
This poll should be merged with rant thread.

There is a comment at the beginning that makes it clear that the security troops are former Army and Marine personnel now working as mercenaries/corporate security.

Apparently everyone forgot that the "marines" in Avatar are a private military force under control of the RDA, so no. It ain't a swipe at the US military.

I highly doubt that it was a swipe at the military, and we all know the media loves to hate PMC's. This thread has potential to be trollish.

I highly doubt that it was a swipe at the military, and we all know the media loves to hate PMC's. This thread has potential to be trollish.Having seen the film, it is a swipe at the military and the military industrial complex and western society in general.
However the whole film is so clumsily heavy-handed on the issue, that it ridicules itself in its own effort to be profound.
Really is nothing to get our panties tied up into a knot about.
