By Jon Herskovitz
SEOUL, Dec 26 (*******) - A U.S. human rights activist trying to raise global attention about the suffering of the North Korean people has crossed into the reclusive state, other activists and South Korean media said on Saturday.
There has been no comment from North Korea, which usually arrests foreign border crossers on site, or from U.S. officials.
Activists told ******* that Robert Park, 28, had crossed into North Korea from China on Friday, while South Korea's Yonhap news agency and the Kukmin Ilbo newspaper quoted activists who went with him to the border as saying he had crossed at a sparsely patrolled point near the northeast border city of Hoeryong.
Park was quoted by activists who went with the the border as shouting when he went across: "I am an American citizen. I am bringing God's love. God loves you." The activists asked not to be named due to security concerns.Article continued at http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/TOE5BO051.htm

Hmm, I think is a very bad idea for anyone to cross into North Korea, specially when you do it illegaly, screeming that you're American, and that God is going to save North Korea...
Seriously, does this guy have a death wish??

Guess which part of NK's border won't be so sparsely patrolled anymore?

why will they execute him? they will exchange for a ship load of wheat and cooking oil and then claim that they released him as a "good will gesture"

In my time abroad, I've found that saying, better yet yelling with a sense of righteous indignation, "I'm an American Citizen" tends to translate into almost every non-English language as "Please, beat me harder".

It looks like it has been quite a while since anyone has posted here. I wonder if there are any flyers in North, AL. I currently live in Hartselle, AL and will be back soon. I would like to find a local club for Park Flyers and see about joining up. Any news?

I don't think "ALL THE YANKS" will be yelling about nuking North Korea, just because of some dumbass who has the idiocy to cross into their country illegally. At least not this yank.

Clinton won't bother getting this ****head out of the sh1t. I guess if they only recently released a Japanese guy they'd held for 40 years, this guy had better start watching his fingers every time the cell door slams closed. Good luck Mr. Park - you probably won't be missed.

Did I get it right, that he crossed and was never heard of again?
Or did he cross, shout his religious message and went back to South Korea?
If I was North Korea, I'd think about some land-mines in unguarded border regions...

This guy is a Collossal Schmuck, he gets what he deserves in this case. What he expects the North Korean Government will suddenly have a epiphany and change course with regards to Human Rights? Fcuk him, let him rot, why should we jack up the tensions there because of this assmonkey and his attention whoring?

I wonder what would happen to a Palestinian trying to cross Israel-Palestine wall yelling "I am a Palestinian. I am bringing Allah's love. Allah loves you."
Or a mexican in case of US-mexican border.
If NK can exchange him for something valuable, they should. Making propaganda with such an idiot makes actually no sense.

Park is a Korean name. Ran into many Koreans with the same last name. I think when it's spelled in English it comes out "Westerner". I could be wrong.

North Korea says US man arrested for illegal entry

* Washington says Pyongyang confirms detention
* Activists say man 'bringing God's love' to North Korea
* North Korea may use detained man as bargaining chip
(Adds family comments, paragraphs 15-17) By Jon Herskovitz
SEOUL, Dec 29 (*******) - North Korea said on Tuesday it had detained a U.S. citizen who entered its territory, apparently confirming a report that an American activist crossed into the communist state to raise awareness about Pyongyang's human rights abuses.
Robert Park, 28, walked over the frozen Tumen river from China and into North Korea last Friday, other activists said.
He told ******* ahead of the crossing that it was his duty as a Christian to make the journey and that he was carrying a letter calling on North Korean leader Kim Jong-il to step down.
Park was quoted by activists who went with him to the border as shouting when he went across: "I am an American citizen. I am bringing God's love. God loves you."
The activists say they filmed him going across and have been trying to sell the video.
"A U.S. citizen illegally entered the country across the North Korea-China border and has been detained. The person is currently undergoing questioning by a related agency," the North's official KCNA news agency said.
KCNA offered no further details. It usually imprisons the few foreigners who cross illegally into the hermit state.
In Washington, the U.S. State Department said it had been informed of the situation. "The DPRK (North Korea) government has confirmed it is holding a U.S. citizen pending an investigation," State Department spokesman Ian Kelly said in a statement.
Kelly said the United States was working with Sweden -- which looks after U.S. interests in North Korea in the absence of diplomatic ties between the two countries -- to seek consular access to the detained man.
North Korea may try to use Park as a bargaining chip with the United States in their high-stakes negotiations over the North's nuclear ambitions, analysts said.Article continued at http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/TOE5BS01I.htm

Noooo - He went of his own volition, knowing full well he'd be arrested and incarcerated. let him rot. ****head.
The 2 girls released earlier this year, accidentally entered NK and immediately crossed back into China - they were chased into China and dragged back into NK by zealous border guards (who were honored last week for their "heroism").
