Why won't the US military adopt a bullpup rifle? How does the AUG compare to the M4 (other than the ability to add accessories)? Thanks. :)

The M4 is better. Nuff said. p-) You're probably going to say that I should post a more informing response, but my forte does not the AUG. So I can not make an acurate judgement on something I know nothing about. But I know that it is easier to change mags with the M4 without removing the weapon from your shoulder. Plus the AUG just has that sh!tty x2 scope. ACOG kicks ass. p-)

Bollock's you can change AUG mag's at the Shoulder, but you are right about the sight, that's why we're going over to the Merpro 21, btw they both have strenght's and weaknesses not better or worse just different ;)

The Australian Manufactured F88s is full RIS capable and can have M203 and the works attached....M4 is far better because of commonality with the majority of arms in service with the US and allied nations.

The M4 is a variant of Stoner's wonderful invention; The M16. Well, I'm not a huge fan of this rifle -I still believe that it's a un-relaible rifle (I experienced 3 blow-up's with rifles: They where all M16/ M4/ Diemaco C7!)-, but it's a accurate and fine rifle to shoot.
The AUG is also very accurate -I think even more than the M16- and more relaible, but: His biggest fauld is that it is a Bullpup design :D ! Switching quickly from your wright to your left shoulder and fire the rifle -to shoot behind corners etc.- will end you with a few empty cases between your teeths :D !
The only two designs that eliminate this problems, are two Belgium FN rifles: The 5,7mm P90 (empty cases ejected under the rifle), and the 5,56mm FN2000 (eject his cases to the font).

Roger

Look for the AUG you have many RIS systems. Now the AUG A2 and A3 have the from factory. Also magazin changing, i saw Austrian soldiers charching quicker there mags from teir AUG than German soldiers at there G36.
Also problems with tactics are no real problems. I think that there are national and politic reasons, becouse the M16 is als a very goog rifle and why it should be dropped for the AUG.

Why won't the US military adopt a bullpup rifle?American military men don't like bull-pup design. There were several attempts to adopt a rilfe in this design (Garand's T31, SPIW, SALVO, Colt IMP (GAU-4/P) etc.) but always failed.
How does the AUG compare to the M4There are some problems with AUG durability (and reliability) especially in cold climate. Also the system of control of fire: short pull single, long push - sustained it isn't a good idea.

The Omani army experienced some problems with their AUGs at the end of the 80s during a contact against some Yemeni militias. They had over 50% of the rifles within the same patrol jamming.
Maybe one of the reasons why the SSF (Sultan's Special Forces) use the M16 range.

I alway's find the complaint's about the AUG not working in certain enviroment's odd, The Irish army used it in Somalia without problems, East Timor,Lebanon,Afghanistan and a few other unplesent places, while the ARW has used it without problems in Swedan, Australia, Northern Canada, French Guyana, the French Alps, yet I keep hearing about hostile climate problem's, it must be the way those unit's take care of it :|

Swedan. Hmm, now that would be an interesting country. Driving your team on reindeer across the desert for a Viking raid of Egypt.

Yes I realised I spelled it wrong earlier, get over itAt least I'm clever enough to spell it right on the first try. What I was trying to find out was if you meant Sweden or Sudan, as you never clarified, instead you repeated the error once more. No reason being pissy about it.
However, my next question is this, when you say ARW has used them in Sweden (now that we've established that's what you meant) what do you mean by ARW, and under what circumstances were they being used?
(And please lay off the attitude, I'm trying to politely ask questions here, okay?)

I apologise for the bitchy attitude it's been a long day, been on exercise for 18 hour's, can't sleep :) , The ARW is Ireland's SF unit they train in Arctic warfare with the Swedish sf, SSG ect, and they have never had a reliability problem with the AUG in that climate or the Desert in Australia, and Africa, and I find it odd that there are so many complaint's about it.

(Side note, what does ARW stand for?)

I was actually told the opposite, that the Aussie AUG's are less robust then the Austrian made one's, it seem's to depend on what side you get the info,so it's up in the air on that :| , the ARW used to use the original now they have moved on to the mk2

The problems were then rectified in the domestic version. But not being an expert on Aussie weaponry I cannot verify if this is correct or not (and right now I'm too darned tired to research it.) I just ripped this off Military.ie
Army Ranger Wing
Unit Designation
The Unit is officially designated 'Sciathán Fianóglach an Airm' , which is translated as 'The Army Ranger Wing'. There is no direct English translation of the term 'Fianóglach' so the designation Ranger is the accepted version. 'Fianóglach' links the traditions of the 'Na Fianna' (Legendary Irish Warriors) with the present day Irish Defence Forces (Óglaigh na hÉireann). Qualified members of the unit wear the Fianóglach shoulder flash insignia.
Unit Motto
Glaine ár gcroí (The cleanliness of our hearts)
Neart ár ngéag (The strength of our limbs)
Agus beart de réir ár mbriathar (And our commitment to our promise)
The Unit motto is taken from an old Fianna poem and continues the link with which the name is associated. It is written in the Irish language.
Ps, I spelt Here wrong ahhhhh :cantbeli:
