My wife's uncle gave me a rifle for Christmas, a Browning A-Bolt with a Leopold scope. The rifle is a two years old and only fired a few times.

I'd like to know specifically what I have here. I can't tell what model of A-bolt I have from the browning website. It's a .270 with a 23-inch barrel. http://www.browning.com/products/catalog/family.asp?webflag_=001B

The Leopold scope says 3 x 9 VARI-X IIc around the front.

I guess what I'm looking for are cleaning and disassembly instructions, and/or manuals for the rifle and the scope.

I learned to shoot in the Cadets back in the UK, so I'm familiar with basic handling and maintenance, but it's been about a decade since I did that.

Sorry for the crappy cell phone pics, but the last pic here kinda shows the odd tiny spots that are all along the barrel. Is this rust, or something common?

Any help/advice you guys could give would be great.

Hard to tell from your pics, go ahead and send it to me in the mail so I can further investigate. Along with some ammo and a carrying case. Thank you.

nice present, are there any vacant spots in your family:)

nice rifle with a nice scope in a nice caliber, are you into hunting?

please dont disassamble it, you will eventually wear of bedding (I did that to my Winny)
all you got to do is take out the bolt, pull true barrel, wipe it of on the outside and lube up the bolt a bit

I'm really more into being outdoors. I've been turkey hunting and deer hunting in the hill country of Texas, but not this season. Last year I got my first deer, a 13-point buck, with a 7mm Mauser. I've had the head stuffed and mounted, but I think it's the last trophy/deer meat I'll take. If and when I take another deer, the meat is going straight to families in need via the processing guys.

I'm very reluctant to completely strip it, but I do want to give it a full clean very soon.

if you must;

to remove the action from the stock;
on the underside you will see two screws, when you open the trap door of the magazine you will see the third, its important, in some rifles to remember which hole did the screw came from, they should all be flat heads, so take care removing them,its easy to strip/scratch them, use appropriate screwdriver, not a kitchen knife, unscrew and it should just come appart,

for the bolt, Im not familiar with the Abolts, but if there are anything like Winnies once you rotate the bolt and pull back it will be apparent on what to do to detach it from the action

There's a button on the side that you push in while pulling the bolt to the rear and it slides right out. Any recommendations for cleaning solutions for each surface/barrel of the rifle?

just get a cleaning kit at your local gun/hunting shop, it usually comes with a basic gun lube and bore cleaner solution

Get a decent cleaning rod, good .270 brushes,jags, patches. Then some FP10 lube & witches brew/ Hoppes No9 to get rid of the copper. Brownells or Creedmoor usually have them in stock. If that is too much then just get a .270 boresnake. Makes cleaning all to easy and seeing as it is not a comp gun that should be fine.
