Heya folks, I'm just doing some research for a canadian friend whose Great Grandfather was with the Sherbrookes during this op and has become really interested in the aug 8-9th fighting as his GGdad is buried in the Cintheaux Cemetary.

Now I'm familar with most of what happened during this attack, as well as the story of Michael Wittmann's demise, but I recall there is a great aerial recce photo from the morning of aug 9th and I'd really love to have that to compare with moder GE imagery of the battlefield while I talk him through it. Unfortunatley my google fu has lets me down badly and I just can't find it. I've got some from the Scotish archive from June 15th but would love to have the ones from Aug 9th. Does anyone happen to have a copy or know where I can get one?

Thanks

well there are lots of recce photos from normandy, but what town or place do you want specific? on the 9th the main fights were around hill 195, I believe
And are we talking about the sherbrookes hussars here, or another unit?

It ideally would be the area around Cinthaeux, along the Route Nationale 158. I have in the past been able to locate a couple of arial recce photos that would be ideal. No such luck now though, all I can find predate August. There's quite a well known one featured in No Holding Back and I've seen the same one online, but I've lucked out in my googling.

Maybe this thread will help: http://www.ww2talk.com/forum/ww2-battlefields-today/17922-wittmann-question.html . The links in post #11 provide more photos.

Oh well, thanks for the help guys, I'll have to go and annoy the archivists in Edinburgh again!
