IMHO it isnt comparable to any other western MBT (Leo2, Leclerc, M1, Challenger)

Im surprised they didnt use ball and chains there, would stop allot of munitions getting through there...
Also, does this have a coaxial MG? Cause I cant see one :S
Nice looking tank though :D

IMHO , in the real world, ariete must not fight against leo2 , leclerc, abrams or challanger but against russian's (production) mbt or similar.... and i think that our mbt is better regarding these last ones...
and now ariete is going to improve its power whit a new engine (from 1200 hp to 1600 hp) and additional armors woot woot

yes , it's a good idea

in this pics the arietes are not , probably, still operative..
generally they have only two MG : one is coaxial and one is on the top for the commander... this is the first time that i see an Ariete whit 2 emplacements for MG on top :D

well; only 48 tons, no independent thermal sight for the commander, 44 calibers main gun, little armour compared to other tanks from its generation... altough it looks great

your info are not correct  :
1. the main gun have the same ballistic characteristics of the Rheinmentall gun mounted on the LEOPARD 2 and on M1A1/A2 Abrams
2.weight in combat order is about 54 tons
3.armour is improved
4.commander has a indipendent thermal sight mod.SFIM SP-T-694 integrated in the system TURMS OG-I4 L3 by Galileo................

hi; im talking about not uparmoured ariete. Anyway, the one in the pictures is clearly (just by reading the figures) inferior to the Leopard2A5 (for Germany) or A6(for Germany) or AEX (for export) or H (for Greece) or Strv122 (for Sweden) or Leopardo (for Spain)...
improved mine protection, higher maximum speed with 62,5 tons, 55 caliber gun, TV camera for driving backwards, much heavier armour package,... sorry
btw, when i say independent i mean that commander can survey any other different direction than the gunner at the same time

HAHAHA. TV camera for driving backwards. I think this system is more applicable to a French MBT.

You're very confused....
1)Ariete have an indipendent termal sight ,see the turret top on the first photo!
2)Ariete with no additional armor have the same protection of a LEO 2A4
3)The gun is the standard 120/44 mm

in the photo the turret is not in driving or "combat" position but in parking position.
this is the normal position:

Yes it has a coaxial MG. In its standard configuration it has a coaxial 7,62 MG42/59 + a 7,62 MG42/59 on the turret roof.
The two shielded MG42/59 that you see in the pictures is a modification made on the tanks sent in Iraq (i.e.: they put another MG on the tank roof, providing both with shields).
Best regards

may be this is not right, but is the official Italian Army webpage.. or may be "circa" (approximately) is 6 tons...
i cant speak much Italian but, could you please translate the content of this webpage?
http://www.ferreamole.it/images/ariete_upa/ariete01.htm
i think it says something like "... one of the least armoured vehicles in western countries...", doesnt it?
having a closer look to the cdr,s sight, i think its pretty similar to the PERI sight in the Leopard2 but made by Galileo i think.
I think its not an independent sight for the cdr,s in the thermal channel; its used jointly with the gunner, as in the M1A1, Leopard1, Challenger 1. But not in Leclerc, Challenger 2, M1A2 and Leopard2A5.

the MBT weight in the esercito.difesa.it web site is the weight without add armour.
About the commandet sight,sorry but you're wrong,from ferreamole.it:
- periscopio panoramico binoculare del capocarro modello SFIM SP-T-694 stabilizzato su due assi ed rotante in modo da essere indipendente dalla posizione della torretta, dotato di camera termica e con capacità di visione passiva notte/giorno
-panoramic stabilized sight for the commander model SFIM SP-T-694,stabilized on two axis and indipendent from the turret,It have a thermal camera with passive night vision day/night

PS:I know that Ariete is one of the least armoured modern MBT :| [/img]

Gabrie, ARIETE with the new up-armour kits (they are coming) will have a similar frontal protection (maybe little less) than LEO 2A6.....but a superior side turret/hull protection (also superior than M1A2, CHALLENGER 2 (only side hull) ).....and it will have a new engine.....and the thermal/engaging system is one of the most advanced (Italy has also an industry that made tergeting systems).......yes it's not innovative, also the base version is not so goog....but now and in the near future it will a very good MBT.......what about an L-55 cannon?......is it necessary in the near future?....NO!.....and i would to say (again) that Italy still have a self industry with very good products....we don't need foreign purchases....
Sorry

This reminded me a joke told by a Maltese guy...
- How many gears in Italian tank?
- 6! One forward and 5 backwards.

One can argue about specs all day long. But its the quality of the crew that will make a difference in combat.

Thats exactly the attitude that gets boots killed. Dont be that boot. Dont underestimate your enemy. And dont think that a well placed round wont destroy your beloved Leopard or any other MBT. Even the M1A1 is valnerable to the latest RPGs. Thats been proven. How many of the latest Leopards have seen combat? :fork:

agree with Ambush, a invincible tank is just bull.... it's just a bad comercial from the factories. If the crew cant use the tank they will end destroyed already by the first ten min, so forget it.
