Do it, man. Lived in Darmstadt, Germany most of my life and never went to Nijmegen myself. Was just short drive to Holland :|

US teams seem to spend months training for it
shocked by our attitude
training routine well we did a 5 mile run with kit on Tuesday rofl
only bloke who dropped out was mr gym bunny.
by day 4 it starts to hurt man was not ment to march on cobbles :(
Our sgt took us off the course to give us a major leauge bollocking and just as he was about to rip into us this elderly dutch couple came out with beers for us . telling how the bristish army had liberated them and saved them from starvation :).
Do the march but its harder than it looks

I dunno. GI's and family members that I knew went there for the fun of it as well.

Then again, I can't speak for all.

The Nijmegen March (****ounced nigh-may-gun) originated in 1909 with Dutch military efforts to increase the long distance marching and weight-carrying ability of infantry soldiers, and eventually evolved into a prestigious international annual competition. Some more facts about the Nijmegen March: The four day march (in dutch 'Vierdaagse; or '4-daagse') is held annually and centered around Holland's oldest town, Nijmegen.

They comprise four consecutive days of marathon marching, each day 30 miles in length.

The town is given over to a huge festival before, during and after the event, which is the largest in a series of international marches.
The event is approaching its 100th anniversary; the only breaks have been for the two world wars.

It attracts over 40,000 entrants and a similar number of visitors and spectators.

Routes pass through many towns and villages, which are given over to a street party atmosphere. Thousands of spectators turn up to watch the 'river' of walkers go by.

Individuals, civilian groups, police/emergency services, military and cadet teams all participate from all over the world.

Walking sounds deceptively easy - to walk 30 miles, four times over is far more challenging than you may realize. Much training and personal determination is required to complete the distance.

The teams marches in uniform, representing services and our nations.
Teams train, travel, and take part entirely on their own time and at their own expense.

Hi,

I just got back home yesterday, and it was AWESOME!! If u ever have the chance to go there; do it! I really don't like walking at all, but the people along the side of the road really motivated me. Especially the last day, tenthousends of supporters stand along the side of the road, giving u apples, water, candy and much more. I walked 40 kilometers everyday, it was though but i made it :) .

Day one; Walked for 8 hours, had six hours of rain. Lots of people gave up, but for myself after a hour of rain it felt naturally ;)
Day two; The most hardest one, it was bloody hot and after 20 km my feet hurted like hell. Made it to the finish in 8,5 hours.
Day three; The most beautiful landscape of all the for days, called "The Seven Hills" (tried to translate). Me and my friend runned 3 of em, made it in totally 7,5 hours.
Day four; Walked without stopping (only once cuz my made had to ****) to the finish. So much enthousiastic people along the side of the road almost made us fly!

My feet are still hurting, but pain is temporary.. pride is for ever ;)

gr Cesar
