My friendly nieghbors to the north....I need your help.
In September I am going to leave the sand, surf and sun of beautiful Orange County to visit a college coed friend of mine who lives in Seattle, only we're not going to be in Seattle for long, but rather a beach-house her family owns somewhere near the Canadian border. During my visit we're going up to BC for a day or so where I am told the drinking age is 19. Since she's 19 and I am 20, we both plan on sampling the local establishments' range of offerings (and if she just happens to get a little drunk and horny...so be it :D )
My question is simple then:
What kind of beer should I get?

Kokanee gold (if you have expensive tastes), molson canadian and lucky lager if your feeling really cheap ;)

Try Molson Canadian AND Labatt Blue, they are the 2 classic Canadian beers. The other one's mentioned in this topic are all quality beers as well. Make sure you try Alexander Keith's India Pale Ale, another famous Canadian beer.
My advice for you is that when in the bar, try a different beer every time you order one.

jameson's, I'm guessing thats whisky?
Anyway, nah. I hate whiskey and anything of the "hard" liquor or sweet liquor category. Beer is the only way to go.
Anyway, never order a steeler... rofl

I think that's some good advice, with one caveat: I would suggest every time you go out sample two or three to start with and then decide on your favourite for the rest of the night. A couple of reasons for that. 1) The taste of some beers may overwhelm or impugn the tastes of others. Blue, for example, is a pilsner, and if one drinks a Canadian, a lager, directly after drinking a Blue, the taste of the Canadian suffers. So, if you are going to try a few different beers, I would suggest keep them somewhat similar. Maybe even have theme nights! Alexander Keith's IPA and Schooner are both Nova Scotia Beers while Moosehead is from New Brunswick. Have a Maritimes Night!
2) After a few beers, your taste buds, like your vision and your reaction time, will be impaired. You won't get the full effect of the beer.
So, there we go. Drink many, drink often and definitely try the local beers. Canada has some real kick-@$$ micro-breweries.

...and thats where i come in
youll be in vancouver then? or white rock at least (if there stay away from the OB (ocean beach hotel), its trash)
my favorite lower mainland specific beers (though i like canadian too, you can get it anywhere)
1. granville island maple creme ale
2. shaftsbery creme ale (or rainforest)
3. okanagan springs 1516
all are unique and worth looking up before trying
if you know what town youre in i could suggest bars and restaurants :)
