I came across the Specter RD while browsing for optics one day and haven't been able to find much info on it.
I searched high and low for any sort of review or other user opinions and the majority of my search results came up for the specter DR instead of the Red Dot. All I could find were a handful of one line statements saying its a good optic but nothing more.
I guess there isn't much demand for them here in the states since Aimpoints are so readily available, the primary reason I'm interested in this optic for my AR is because it has a turret for quick elevation adjustments out to 600m.
The reason I am so fond of this feature is because I mainly run a CMMG .22lr conversion in my AR and could really use the quick adjustments to compensate for the bullet drop of the .22 since my current sight is zeroed for the much flatter shooting .223
The official Elcan site has it listed as a 3 moa dot sight using CR123 batteries with a 6 year life which is pretty comparable to aimpoints and botach has them for $450-$525 depending if you want the range adjustment turret

Would love to know if anyone here has had any experience with them.

Elcan always has had very good glass, and their latest gen of optics are built like a tank; ask me about how heavy my Spectre DR is.
If the RD is anywhere near the quality of the DR, I would say go for it.
However, I HAVE NOT USED THE SUBJECT OPTIC.

so what kind of MOA adjustment do you have push for a 600m shot with a .22LR?

Turn the elevation knob until it comes off and then five full turns after that.

Heh I don't intend to push it that far, my .22lr drops about 5-6" at 100yd and the quick adjustment turret would work nicely to get POA/POI at various distances under 100.

I would think that most products built by Elcan and rugged and reliable (except for Elcan Digital Hunter - which has some funky electronics). That being said, if you are shooting a .22lr at under 100 meters, does it seem like a good use of resources to purchase a $500 sight? If you can justify the expense of the sight, then I think you would be happy with it. I have used the Elcan Spectre DR sight in a demo, and it is a nice piece of glass. When I used the sight it was under a white glove situation, so I don't know how it would hold up to constant abuse.

Mines seen 1000+ rounds in my civvy carbine, and about 600 mounted on a C9 LMG, with no noticeable POI shift on either. This includes innumerable flips back and forth between 4x and 1x.
Mines a Gen II, basically the black version of the SOPMOD II optic, without the MRD mount.

I understand what you mean. I like being able to switch between my 22lr conversion and the .223 BCG for tactical/practical plinking depending if I''m on a proper range or someone's back yard where noise can piss people off. thats why I'm so set on this sight because I can zero it for .223 at 50 yds and still shoot .22lr using the quick elevation turret since the drop of a .22 can easily miss a beer/soda can at 50+ yards when zeroed for .223 due to the bullet drop.
(I plan on using Aguila .22LR SSS 60gr which should stabilize better then the 40gr Winchester/Federal Wal-Mart stuff considering my rifling 1/9 and 40gr is more suitable for 1/16)
Back to the topic though, its good to hear people with elcan brand name optics speak highly of them. From my understanding they provide rifle optics for the Canadian Armed Forces and should be equal if not better than Trijicon/Aimpoint brand optics.
Thanks for the info, gents!
