In the early 1960s, a joint United States and ROC squadron of high-altitude Lockheed U-2 reconnaissance aircraft, called the "Black Cat Squadron," was established on Taiwan. Overflights of the People's Republic of China (PRC) by Taiwanese pilots began in 1962 and continued until 1974. These flights targeted nuclear, missile, and other military facilities. During this period the ROC Air Force conducted over 100 overflights, losing five U-2s in the operation. Three U-2 pilots were killed and two captured.

American soldiers with the Army 3rd Battalion, 509th Parachute Infantry Division and Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers during an assault operation on the town of Oshaky on January 18, 2010 in Oshaky, Afghanistan. Oshaky, in eastern Afghanistan and close to the Pakistani border, is known to harbor anti-coalition fighters and to be the home village of an area Taliban leader.

The air assault operation focused on gathering intelligence and conducting searches of homes in the village where it is believed that numerous attacks on coalition troops have been planned.

ANA using Digicam?

The ANA started to issue a new Digicam called Afghan Woodland late last year, eventually the whole army will be issued with it, check out the ANA thread and you will see some better photos of it.

Check out the British Forces pictures thread. They said there he was most likely a military policeman or close protection person who use that gun. The helmet is the new type issued to theatre troops in Afghanistan.

I'm pretty sure he's British. He's wearing British camo, and a newer helmet employed by the British forces, and I believe that is a Colt Canada C8 rifle (correct me if I'm wrong), which is used by some British units. I'm not familiar with British units really so I don't know which one he's from.

Actually im not sure, im convinced the guy on the guard tower with the ANA is wearing ACU not desert DPM, I wasnt aware there was US Army troops in Helmand? Only Marines?

That's just really sad this could have been avoided. NATO troops are so quick to call in air-strikes without verifying the identity of the opposing forces. Very unfortunate.
