Well, I finally got my diploma today and I fetl compelled to share. Here is a scan of the relevant portion. My scanner is not big enough to get the whole thing in one picture. No, law degrees are often call "juris doctor" or "doctor of jurispridence". They are not equivalent to a PhD or even an MD. The reason for the inclusion of doctor is that the degree requires 90 hours [usually] to complete. So, its way more than a masters [usually 30 hours] but not a Dr. b/c no dissertation. Just tradition in the US for a law degree to carry that title. It does not give me the right to say Dr. hank, but I can now sign things hank, J.D. if I want or hank, esquire. I'll do neither, just plain ol' hank works.
