I am so curious to know what people in this forum carry around in their pockets.
Thus the topic: Pictures of your EveryDay Carry (EDC)
So to start it off, heres mine...

Oooh nice SOG knife. Those things with the Seki blades are fantastic!
I usually just carry my Spyderco Endura (plain), Spyderco Harpy (fully serrated), a watch, keys, and my wallet. I hope someday to have a bigass keyring and thousands of keys though, so I can go undercover as an elite custodian operator!

phone, wallet, keys, small gerber folder, sealable pen.
I used to carry a flashlight but I need to get a better one of those before I begin to carry them again.

knives I own.

The items I carry daily. I rotate the four knives on the right but have a preference for the self-waved Endura for quick draw.

As much as I love the zippo I am going to replace it with a plain old bic lighter once the fuel runs out.. I just cant stand having a lighter only to find out that the fuel has evaporated when I need to use it.

adeadlyfart: whats that black thinggy in that little plastic bag?
and isnt that a half leatherman micra? wont it open on its own whilst in the pocket?
a deadly fart
02-24-2006, 02:32 AM
The Cricket is a sharp little bugger. When I was without a shaver in my college apt for a week I used it to shave as it just arrived in the mail that week.
The black plastic bag thingy is my eyeglass whipe cloth. The half leatherman micra is just opened for viewing and has a pretty tight fit.
Spyderco is also coming out with the spyderco spin that is similar to the cricket.

I know I'm probably a wannabe or whatever for carrying a knife (who cares), but it's the best tool aside from myself and training, that I can use to defend myself, as CCW's are hard to get here in Los Angeles County. Better safe than sorry.
That, and I cut shiit, stab stuff, open things, etc with a knife on a daily basis.
I too have an iPod (nano), but I don't carry it everywhere, as it's fragile (survived a fall off a mountain though :)). Ditto with my cell phone, as I'm a frickin' loser and nobody calls me unless it's my boss or something.

Hehe... yea there is no violence here where i live... so it's nothing for me to worry about...I am a 'get your hands dirty' boy, but the thing is where i live there is no dirt... so I don't really need a knife to cut and stab things... ;)
TacoDelRio
02-25-2006, 04:28 AM
Well I don't get dirty around here unless I go into the desert or mountains, so my EDC knives usually see such dangerous work as slicing meat/cheese/food, stirring chili cans, opening letters, prying things open, etc.
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y222/TacoDelRio/GroupPhoto.jpg
I usually carry the Spyderco's in the picture (the three silver ones). Fixed blades and the large folder at the bottom (Lone Wolf expensive-ass knife) are a bit friggin' bulky for normal daily stuff and work, but are great in the mountains.

The new SOG trident would be a better choice... its also has assisted opening and has an extra slit in the handle for rope cutting.
TacoDelRio
02-26-2006, 12:33 AM
DRAGON,
I have the Trident. "The groove", as that slot is called, is useless for 550 cord, which is incredibly common in the military world. "The groove" gets caught on my pants pocket lip constantly. I don't like "the groove".
However, after owning a SOG Flash 2 camo, I like the trident more, with the clip-point blade, plain (no serrations), it had alot more cutting use than the half serrated model.
a deadly fart
02-26-2006, 03:50 AM
the "groove" is meant more for rescue work.. ie cuttign seatbelts and clothing without risk of the pointy end of the blade injuring the patient. For cutting rope serrations is the way to go. As for folks carrying a gun I dont understand the need for a gun as it is just a whole can of legal worms waiting to come out. Then again I live in California, San Francisco no better.
TacoDelRio
02-26-2006, 04:19 AM
I don't see why you shouldn't be allowed to carry a gun. I'd rather have legal troubles than die, all else aside. Dying sucks.
I bet $500 the groove on my SOG won't cut a seatbelt.

I was just minding my own business and listening to some of my favorite Canadian cowboy tunes when some idiot terrorist shoots me. Luckily the nano was in its metal case in my shirt pocket and it took the bullet for me. There was some nasty bruising but that was about it.
I get Dentyne Ice free as part of a marketing campaign. Why spend money on gum when they pay you to chew a specific product, right?

+1 on the knife choice. I beat the living sh*t out of my Flash 2. Used to throw it alot. I sold alot of them by showing people how strong they are.
Can't go wrong with a SOG folder, ESPECIALLY the X-ray's and others using SEKI steel blades from Japan. My favorites!

it's a nice knife, but technically it's illegal to carry one. Some day my knife(s) are going to get me arrested and charged with illegaly carrying a weapon :) but i honestly intend to keep on the right side of the law, and dodge the coppers if i can.

Pretty much.
If I'm going into a place where I can get lost (mountains, desert, downtown LA, etc), I'll often times carry a fixed blade or large folding knife, as form personal experience, a small pocket knife, however "modern", metro******, or gentlemanly doesn't help you chop a treebranch off, or remove a belt from your engine, do various work on your vehicle such as prying things off, etc etc. Not enough meat there to do it more than once.
I will usually carry a second knife, a mid-size Spyderco that doesn't draw much attention if I "whip it out in public". ;) That way I can open letters, pick my fingernails, and taunt young children without bringing out a bigass knife.
And sometimes I have 3-4 knives on myself just to bother those who heavilly dwell upon the terms of "moderation". :)

I've never had any reliability problems with my Surefires. I've only had dead batteries. THey have been in all weather conditions, immersed in rivers many times, work just fine and dandy. Only ones I don't like are the Nitrolon (plastic) ones, as they leak when wet. Black battery acid doesn't feel good on your hands!

Hmm ok probably wrong word to use.... let me change that to more 'energy efficient'... Nothing to do with the construction of the lights. They are all good.
let me explain what i mean... I am comparing to surfire's LED versions... they drain more battery in the circuit board for the lumen step downs, and i feel rather insecure knowing the regulated LEDs will suddenly cut out when the batts falls below a certain voltage.
While unregulated ones are more direct which slowly dims as it goes along... draining till the last drop of voltage. At least i will be left with some light in the end if i am unable to swap batteries.

Don't carry the dagger all the time, only when i leave the house after 8PM or when I go to Brussels or Antwerp. Also when I go out and have to walk home (most of the time +-1h walk).
Ordered a Surefire G2 & maybe a Gerber AR 3.00 (early birthday present :))
Does anyone have that knife? Positive sides/negative sides?
The dagger is just too bulky to carry under my clothes, normaly i just hang it upside down on my belt or under my jacket.
Would be handy to have a knife that fits in my pockets.
Have to be carefull with the police in Belgium tho. Almost everything that has a blade is forbidden for carryment here. Only thing that is allowed here is a swiss army knife. They can even confiscate a Multitool here, but that depends from region to region.

The G2 you ordered is a good choice I have it too. If you want a better to conceal knife, buy some sort of neckknife, I have the S&W one, works great.

What do you mean with a 'neckknife'?
You mean something like a simple 'Opinel' knife?

Surefires do run out faster. If yer in Law Enforcement, a Surefire is good when you need short burst of a sh*tload of light. Maglites and Streamlights are good for extended use, like the way you normally use a flashlight.
Awesome picture, ABNINF. I wish that wasn't partially a picture of me!

More importantly, how many criminals are trained in how to combat a knife-wielding oponent. p-)
That's the buty of a knife, no matter how well trained you are, fighting someone with a knife, you WILL get cut. You just have to know how to attack so that the cut will go somewhere non-lethal.
Most people not trained in that, will try and avoid being cut. That's how you get seriously hurt. :-*$

It's quite handy to carry a light with you, you never know when you need it.
I carry my knife for a (maybe false) feeling of safety.
When you walk around in Brussels in the subway/train stations or just in the streets after 22pm, you can always run into young crowds that don't always have the best intentions.
I always carry it me since i got beaten the **** out of me in Brussels Nord train station.
Of course you can always carry it for other things. Cutting ropes or other things.

lol my main purpose is for pratical reasons... a tool to help u cut stuff.
as for lights... i cant see in the dark.

are you sure that during a struggle on the street you would have no doubts about hitting someone with a knife? well I'm sure I would have some. that's why I don't carry with me any deadly weapons "in case if..."
I prefere hand to hand combat or my fast legs when overnumbered by the offenders.
as for the lights, why should I need an artificial light while I spend most of my time in town where everything is already lighten up during nights? and in the countryside I see more without artificial light then with it. just try it in a forest - after a few whiles in the dark your eyes will see everything (maybe not as precisely as with a light but surely wider. with a light you can see only the place where you aim and anything else)

~~~~~, I use my knife for practical uses like cutting stuff ( the purpose of a knife.... ) i might use it as a defensive weapon, but not quickly. I'll use my brass knuckles if i would be confronted with a lot of 'bad guys'. I use my light because like some already said; I can't see in the dark. Offcourse your eyes adjust to the dark, but can you find for example a lens in the dark? In the well lit city? ;) I'm one of the only guys carrying a flashlight in my group of friends and they ask me for it a lot. When someone loses something during a party, you're not going to ask to put the lights on are you? ;)
Percell
I will always try to be defensive first, but when the other guy(s) is (are) getting aggresive I will do everything do defend myself. Of course i'm not going to draw my knife if someone starts to argue with me, but i know it's there just in case.
I'm in the process of acquiring necessary items for my EDC.
The usual, wallet, bunch of keys and Spyderco Endura Waved.
I plan to add
1) Surefire L1-H1
2) Emerson Super Karambit BT (to replace the Spyderco)
3) Emerson La Griffe-BT
plus the above.
Cant get CCW in Canada otherwise I'd also carry my Gov 1911.
Good choices.
1) I have a L2 but it´s a little to big for EDC in civvie clothes so a L1 would make an excellent choice. Mucho lumens, long runtime, all that in a very compact size.
2) I have only played with an Combat Karambit but that knife was just evil.
I imagine the Super is even more evil then the Combat. p-)
3) It´s an Emerson... ´nuff said.
Another problem for me with these digital controlled leds is that they cut off the power TOTALLY when the voltage is low, thus u do not have any light at all.
For the inova, it will still give off a little light progressively till no juice is left in the batteries.. woot
You seriously walk around everyday with a beer cozy in your pocket? And a deck of cards? And a Sharpie?
I see these threads on some of the knife forums I visit and I can't believe the amount of stuff that some people carry in their everyday lives. Here's one from Blade Forums:
If you include belt pouches and holsters along with pockets, here is what I carry every day. (Last time I posted one of these people looked at me strangely for months...)
H&K P7 M8 & spare magazines
ASP Keyring Defender: blue
Camillus CUDA Maxx 5.5 Bowie
Darrel Ralph Madd Maxx: 4" recurve spearpoint
SOG PowerLock: gold TiNi
Victorinox SwissChamp XLT: blue
Swiss-Tech UtiliKey: gold TiNi
Arc LS2 Light
Photon Microlight II: red
Zeiss Pocket Telescope
Retro 51 Tornado Data Pen: blue
Solo Slim Laser Lighter
Mini Fox-40 Whistle
First Aid Kit
Survival Kit
Sony Clie PEG-T665C
Motorola V70 phone
Citizen SkyHawk Titanium
Spec-Ops T.H.E. Wallet: black
Cargo pockets and a good belt make it easy to carry. Personally the only things I carry everyday are my wallet, my phone, my keys (with a tiny basic model Swiss Army Knife attached to the keychain), and a digital camera.
By the way, here's another example of some guy's Every Day Carry, also from Blade Forums:
I don't enjoy having pockets full of stuff. I keep everything in my arctryx charlie pack, which gets locked up as soon as I get to work. I pick up the pack on my way out the door.
I do carry my keys though, clipped to a belt loop.
The downside is that I end up writing on my hands.....
Well I carry the beer cozy when I'm on the tractor, cause I work for 7 hours without a break in the middle of nowhere so it's nice to have a cold drink halfway through. And you'd be suprised how important a sharpie is to a farmer.
Then I work part-time in an Outdoor-Adventure-Shop http://www.unterwegs.biz/en/
Who cares? I'll be the one who's prepared and you'll be the one asking for help. I'm not going to bust your balls or call names because of what you choose to carry, what's the point of doing it to me?
Some people find it useful, some find it appeals to their childish gadget focused side and some find it comforting.
1) Why the hell should police "catches" someone? Only if police (cop) has justified suspicion of commited crime (e.g. burglary) he could search (or "catch") a citizen.
2) Is in your countries so strict totalitarian regime of Big Brother so you can not carry a knife? Then God bless Czech republic.
Making a point of carrying even less is just as bad as carrying all that crap some knife dudes carry.
My EDC consists of a key, my wallet, my damn Korean phone, and a knife our resident bladesmith Henry's Fork made for me. If I had the $$$, I'd carry a pistol (probably a CZ75) concealed. My neighborhood f*cking sucks, and I'm a poverty-level whiteboy in a city full of guys with "MS" stamped on their forehead.
I agree with you on having a knife with you on the island. When I live just outside London my cousin ( also a saffie ) spent a night in gaol because he had a knife with him at Camden Town. In SA we always use to carry a knife with us - hell , I used to carry my 9mm for years - came to the realisation that it was not worth the effort. Especially with our constrictive laws.
The classic "bring a knife to a gun fight".
Edit: We carry a knife not for self-defence but for work (10%) and BILTONG (90%)
not so long ago it was custom for every man to carry a knife... Sadly those days have gone and ****, Tom and Harry now frown upon anyone taking a sharp tool out their pocket. People see knifes now merely as weapons, never a tool. Even the ordinary squaddy has excuses for not carrying a pen knife! Which makes sizing flannelette interesting.... ;)
I carry a legal, small folder in my pocket and use it at least twice a day, every day. Funny thing is when others see me using it to peel my fruit I receive criticism for carry one yet soon enough I get asked if they can borrow it :-)
"Hey. LT can I borrow your knife?"
"Sure." Hands it over.
SGT uses it to cut WD1 wire and destroys the edge. Hands it back; then I noticed HIS knife in his pocket.
"SGT, why didn't you use your knife?"
"Cause it would have F$@*ed it up, sir." grins the NCO.
Lesson learned by a young 2LT.
At least the authorities still give a gap for your Sgian Dubh. A claymore would be a bit difficult.
I wish! But seeing that down here we live in self-imposed prisons we do need to get out sometimes. It is for the security gate at my front door. And it is a real pain in my pocket.:-(
