Members of an elite Greek special forces conduct a security exercise somewhere near Athens on Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2003. The Olympic Games are coming home to a city struggling under a colossal task: protecting the first post-Sept 11 games even as terrorists increasingly display their mobility and might in places as diverse as Baghdad, Bombay and Jakarta.

Awesome set of pics, well done.

The only thing that caught my eye was the water drooling out of the barrel of the MP5SD here:

http://accuweather.ap.org/apdbs/Intl_Photos/views/mini/6928/6928352.jpg

My question is, is this weapon ready to fire with that amount of water in the system? If so, how are weapons treated/maintained to take this kind of puishment? How does the water effect the weapon at this point, if at all?

Never try, but I don't think it's a problem.

It's more for rapid deployment, to get through really rough terrain or narrow passages, there fast, and can go just about anywhere a person can.

The rifle is up more so that they can provide cover fire if an enemy pops up, There not meant to ride around a shoot like crazy, the mainly dismount to fight.

The M4 guy has still it's water in the barrel :|

I think it's propably one of the navy models which are specially designed for that.Never seen HK weapons fired shortly after drained??? - IMPRESSIVE

Whoah, these guys look pretty high speed.
Arnt many nations bringing their own special forces to the olympic games? such as American and their "Delta Force" and the UK with their SAS, pretty sure i read that somewhere here.

Yeap I think you're right...I also read that as well....Security is going to be pretty tight I imagine.

The media displays of Greek SF training is a sign they probably want to let potential terrorists/attacks know that they aren't going to get off lightly if they do try....a kind of psycological wave against potential terrorists.

I imagine the UK and the US do not hold much confidence in Greek SF (security) if they plan on deploying their own CT contingents to the region although cross training and advice from countries such as UK, US and Germany etc.

Greek SF are highly trained and modeled on other Western units such as the SEALs, Delta and the SAS but I still hold higher regard and especailly confidence for units like the SAS etc

But hopefully the games will go unhindered and without incident.

Yeah, you would think the greeks would be rather insulted by all this talk about other nations lacking confidence in them.
But when the ceremonys do come, there will be some good photo opertunities to see some Delta and SAS blokes.

Sorry guys. There will be no Deltas or Sas at the Olympics. We can make it with our own.

For someone who asked, a ‘live’ picture from the stadium:

It works for the "Nov 17" guys very well in Athens.

November 17 - The Unknown Enemy

by P. Michel.
Founder of Praesidia Defence
former Member of German Government Security Services

When the British Military attaché Stephen Saunders leaves his apartment on June 9th, 2000 shortly after seven o'clock, he doesn't suspect what fate awaits him. He gets into his cream-colored Rover 820 for his daily trip to the British embassy. The traffic jam on the multi lane main street is nothing special. But on this day a motorcycle follows him. The two men on the bike wind through the dense traffic. Shortly before 7.30 o'clock the two-wheeled vehicle stops at the side of Saunders cars. The Militärattaché is hit in the upper part of the body fatally four times. He succumbs his injuries three hours later.

Stephen Saunders knew the dangers in Greece. That is why he used a car without diplomat characteristics and attached a Greek license plate at his Rover. If he was in an armored vehicle and had an effective counter surveillance he would be presumable still on the life.

In a 13-page communiqué the Greek terror group November 17 confessed to the crime. They feel that the assassination is justified as retribution for the roll of the British government with the NATO air raids in the Kosovo.

A very popular trend today is to have a little water in the suppressor. It really cuts the db's down.
