And in either case, what does it mean?
well it means thunder but officially its acronym of Grupa Reagowania Operacyjno Mobilnego, its military babling hard to translate but unofficially it is to honour Gromosław Czempiński (spie who rescued US CIA agents in Gulf War 1, and was one of GROM creators).
We use grom name quite often. There was dystroyer in world war 2 and there is MANPAD Grom.
