Not only does the principle look like the sort of retard that runs around vomiting rainbows and talking in that typical soothing 2nd grade teacher voice even to adults all day, but she also looks slightly canadian to possibly transgendered.

Little boys like action. GI joes. Robots made of guns that have guns that shoot guns for bullets. Things like that. Its never going to change. Christ a little common sense goes a long way. Its not like it was a full size replica firearm. It was lego size. ****. Just another step in the pussification of America. They would probably be more pleased if he brought barbie dolls next time.

"The gun was so little," the boy said. "I don't understand why the principal got so upset. I was a little nervous. They made me sign a statement."

What a bunch of amateurs. A nine year old boy cannot be held liable in any legitimate court of law that I can think of so making him sign anything just looks like a desperate attempt to make a case. This is just ridiculous.

Alone, perhaps not, but combined with other similar incidents, this is becoming an alarming trend amongst schools.

too many teachers are women. I'm not saying this because i have problems with women in this line of work, but boys need male role models to ensure that their developement takes the right path. incidents like this prove that women soetimes do not have the neccessary understanding to deal with boys.

True!
And I have the impression that many teachers (at least here in Germany) are pacifistic leftwing idiologists.

I remember bringing the Star Wars Millenium Falcon to school back when I was a young lad, I used to play with a mate who had the Tie Fighter that lights up and makes electronic sounds....wonder which one would she have considered more threatening???

I must agree that boys need more male rolemodel teachers, who can relate to wanting to play with awesome toys, and not girly dolls. :S

ok first off after reading the article i felt like puking... what the HotELL was the goddamn daisy licking school faculty thinking???

hell I remember in high school the Army brought over a snootfull of Russian weapons and even a tank! (ok ok it was a PT-76) course none of us brought any weapons (like my Dad's Korean war trophy) after that event...we had more brains back then! instead of preacing that zero tolerance crap maybe they should teach how to use grey matter correctly!:slap:

and then there's this comment from that page:

My son just got 2.5 days for making a robot out of an eraser and a paperclip. He made it in class then took it outside to play in the dirt then when the bell rang he stood in line for class. When they were ready to back to class he took his little robot and poked the kid in front of him just joking around with his created toy. The principle called it a weapon and suspended him the rest of the day plus two additional days. What happened to schools... what kinds of idiots are teaching our kids?

you got to be fvcking kidding me an eraser???:cantbeli:

next on the news Steven Segall's son suspended for bringing his father to school...YEESH!

Getting in trouble for making a gun out of Legos? Back in the day, my friends and I would take our toy guns -which looked almost like the real thing and didn't have the stupid orange tip- to school and create all sorts of havoc during recess. People need to lighten up.

Back in the late 70s and 80s. We carried butterfly knives on us in school, some of the teachers actually knew because we constantly practiced in front of them, but since they knew that we weren't troublemakers, it was no big deal. And there were days that we'd take all sorts of knives to school for show and tell with friends until someone mishandled a Fairbairn-Sykes Commando knife and dropped it point first into his own knee.. I think bottom line is that, as the population grows, people know each other less, don't take the time to get to know each other anymore. If they did, everyone would feel less threatened, and would respect each other more. And also be less uptight.

This principal is being completely moronic. I remember my junior year of high school (about a thousand years ago ) my metal shop teacher *HELPED* me make a sword and two knives. We could shave with the damned things afterwards.

Many years later, (about 9 years ago) I helped my then 10 years old son build an operating medieval WMD (a trebuchet ;-)) for his science project! We were able to launch a bowling ball sized projectile about 50 yards downrange at the school football field.

And this kid is in trouble for a 2" long, non-operable plastic rifle....

ugh.

It is hard to tell what some people find offensive.
Even common sense and rationality can fail you, and then again, there are also always double-standards from person to person making it hard to navigate what is and isn't appropriate since there is no consistency - I'm fairly certain other teachers/principals wouldn't have cared.
I feel bad for this little guy. It must be hard for him to understand what he has done wrong and I am sure that it will be confusing for some time,
especially since his parents think it is ridiculous.

It really sucks for him to feel guilty about a toy, something that is a source of playful fun that he uses to express his creativity with.
Especially since this object isn't lethal. (unless of course we want to speak of 'small parts/choking hazard' but he is above this age)
I suppose that the fact that it represents an object that can kill was too overwhelming for the principal to take.
I guess that the representation of an object alone is enough to warrant shock and disgust, and in a postmodern world such as the one we live in I find this not only incredibly sad but also not of this time.

It is interesting that the way this object is codified in his mind has nothing to do with the reality that the principal is encoding this innocent item with in hers.
I think it is fair to say that the principal over-reacted. A real pity.
As the boy's mother says- "Come on, it's a Lego."

don't you need common sense to be a principal (seems to be an oxymoron here).

if it was such a threat, better to have called swat ? if its not that big a deal, then there you have it. i'm sure lego isn't going to be happy if they get complaints that their toys are violent , lol

Not anymore, now that you have "zero tolerance" policies, you can throw good judgement (and responsibility for making judgements) out the window...

Sad.
