But this isn't silent recinesance, its normall fight but its aim isn't conguering land but gaining info about opponent.. I think that this tactical move is called reconesance-in-force but it also seems that term has also other meaning than that, as there are special r-i-f units. And manuover I'm talking about is made by normal units when no info from other sources is available...

In the SF we still called he actual act of doing it "Probing" the enemy. The new catch phrase for that type of oepration was RECCE, ****ounced "wrecky". It's the same as Recon!

When you use part of your forces to check enemy positions, strenght, will to fight etc by engaging them in fight?

In Finnish:

When you engage the enemy to find out it's positions etc it's "väkivaltainen tiedustelu". (direct translation would be "aggressive/offensive intelligence)

Regular "sneak-peak" recon is called "tiedustelu*".

*Direct translation for "tiedustelu" is "intelligence", but actually it means the same as "recon" or "recce" in english.

No. By Russian FMs offensive Recconaisance actions should be used in seldom situations.

Wel the "night time probe in force" is always pretty "nice". Of course its only effectie against "certain" opponents. Aslo, in certain situations NBC gear might be appropriate, but otherwise its worth it usually. :D
