Hi all,

I'm currently trying to get together some reference pics for my next 1/6th project Rhodesian Infantry and Mercenaries hired by the Rhodesian Gov't.

I've had little luck so far, maybe you can help :)

Thanks all!

CROCODILE TROOP CARRIER

Based on a commercial 5 ton diesel truck, the Crocodile troop carrier was produced in some numbers and in various model variants. The angled steel shell of the hull provided ballistic protection from grenade fragments and AK-47 rounds. The charcteristic deep "V" of the hull was designed to deflect the blast of landmines away from the occupants inside the veihle. The sturdy roll bars further protected the occupants in the vent that a land mine detonation rseulted in the vehicle overturning. Bullet resistant glass was provided for the driver. The hatches visble along the sides are viweing / firing ports. Crocodiles continue to serve in the Zimbabwe National Army today. Photo credit: Chick Van Moerkerken.

SELOUS SCOUTS "PIG"

This strange vehicle was a one-off example, built by intrepid Selous Scouts engineers and it began life as a Unimog. The design was copied from a West German APC and the vehicle saw service exclusively with the famed Selous Scouts regiment. The vehicle was not mine protected, but certainly had ballistic protection against all small arms fire. The weapons visible are Belgian belt-fed 7.62mm MAG light machine guns. Sorry but there were no Mercenaries employed by the Rhodesian government.

All serving troops attested to the Rhodesian colors.

To say they were Mercenaries is like saying that "any" non native born service person serving the USA forces is a Mercenary. So all Mexican, European,Panamanian, Puerto Rican etc now serving is a Mercenary.

Any Americans reading agree?.

The Rhodesian servicemen were paid the same as Rhodesians and were under the same military regulations.

Some fools from SOF thought they were and also took sexy pictures of wannabees buts thats all they were. Wannabees.

All serving had to do basic training. After , if they wanted to they could apply for Rhodesian SF . Not that many passed. All SF training was hard. Today it would be considered as Barbaric. one MRE for two weeks but still having to do full training.
The SF had to do more on less with the DS gripping them all the way.

Well sorry,

But I was basing my information off some articles I read...

Like this one

The volunteers who fought alongside the Rhodesians during the bush war, contrary to the popular perception abroad (and guerrilla propaganda), were not mercenaries (in the legal sense of the word), but signed up in the Rhodesian Security Forces under the same conditions and at the same rate of pay as Rhodesian regulars.

I apologize if I offended you, as I am just now learning about the conflict.
