View Full Version : Site on German losses during WW2
Thought to share a possibly useful link to anyone interested in the subject:
http://ww2stats.com/
It has a lot of statistics on German losses, sorted by date, theatre, division etc.
It also has statistics on Soviet POWs and their losses.

Its extremely tragic how many died in the last months of the war.
1.540.000 dead in little more than 4 months, when everything was actually over for some time.

Pretty harsh numbers. Hundreds of thousands of KIA even when the war was going well in 1941. Puts things into perspective.

@warlord:
German soldiers were just as human as all the Allied soldiers. Many were under age 20 or even under age 18. But as a German I do understand your opinion. Hearing it from many Russians made me personally stop feeling sorry for the suffering of Soviet soldiers as well. Later hearing and reading comments like "I don't feel the slightest compassion for those dead Krauts/Nazis" from Americans and British made me lessen my regret for their dead soldiers, too. By now I am largely at the point were I only feel truly sorry for the German victims of the war. I know, that this attitude may not be very commendable from a humanist point of view. But it were people like you who started it, and I simply realized that we Germans probably need to save all those feelings of sorry for our own. Otherwise, too few would care.

well said Kitsune ! as a Jew i am not sure on which side i have to put my feelings about the German loses . you zoom out from facts and zoom in on the results. there is sorrow on every life lost, but there is no sorrow for an aggressor, who dared and FAILED, had to pay the ultimate price and paid.
yes the Russian took their revenge on your territory / people, same as you started the ugly march to theirs, but after all , i think the sorrow should stay with in each side of the conflict , since there is no way that one part will ever fully understand the pain of the other. my point of view, i personally despise your generation of 1934-1945, and i hope that they suffered much and wished the suffered even more (i have family (RIP) album with pictures that will leave you speechless talking about losses), but i have nothing with you since i can't blame you for what your older generation done and paid for.
however i (?and not only me) do hold you responsible for this thing not to happen again!
