Hmmm:
Sisters Of Mercy - (So it's pretentious and dated - f*ck you!)
Nightwish - (yeah it's a chicks band, but drink beer and suddenly it's not just operatic European nonsense)
Slayer - (SMITE THY ENEMIES)
Paridise Lost - (beating Depeche mode at pop angst)
Devin Townsend - (token Canadian genius)
I hardly listen to band orientated music anymore so this list represents myself around 1997-2000.

I like all kinds of music... I like jazz... blues... classic rock... some country...
I just bought Big and Rich yesterday, and though they are classified as country... their CD has very little music on it that resembles country... it's a cool mix. I'm liking it.
Jimmy Buffett... AC/DC... Eagles... Miles Davis... Sarah McLaughlin.... Norah Jones.... Diana Krall.... many many more... depends on the mood... depends on the day....

Metallica
The Smiths (and a lot of the post-punk stuff from England)
I like techno (Paul van Oakenfold, Fat Boy Slim, etc.)
