LONDON: A "humiliated" young mother in Britain was forced to get off a bus in heavy rain for breastfeeding her six-week-old daughter, sparking an outrage.
25-year-old Amy Wootten, a learning support assistant, was forced off the bus while she was travelling home from Bristol city centre.
The driver pulled up the number 54 First Bristol bus when she began to feed her six-week-old daughter Emily on the basis of a complaint by a passenger. She was instructed to step off the vehicle, despite the weather, when the lady refused to stop the breastfeeding, according to a media report.
"I felt completely and utterly humiliated, because it was a packed bus - if I hadn't fed her, Emily would have screamed and we would probably have had more complaints from people on the bus," she was quoted as saying by the Bristol Evening Post. "I was showing a tiny bit of breast, but is it any different to showing your arm or your foot?"
"I have really struggled breastfeeding Emily and had so many problems but was determined to do the right thing for her. It just makes you really reluctant to feed in public," the disgusted mother said.
NHS guidelines encourage women to breastfeed because of the health benefits.
Wootten had to hire a taxi for the rest of her journey home to the Stockwood area of the city, according to The Independent newspaper.

God forbid if that ever happened to some woman I took a ride in a bus with and someone complained, and the driver driver pulls over. I say those who complained get off the fvcking bus -- including the damn driver!

Google says: Amy Wooten (http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2010/02/25/article-1253678-0875C25A000005DC-677_468x684.jpg)
Edit:
Well, what do you know.... Ironic.
It comes despite a national campaign encouraging mums to breastfeed because of the protective effects on them and their children.
An initiative in the city where the incident took place sees restaurants, cafes and other public places signing up to show they welcome breastfeeding mums.
Bristol was also the first city in the country to complete one of the stages for the Unicef Baby Friendly award.

But saying that I heard a Mother with kids objecting to a young lady breast feeding her child.

Clearly the bus driver went overboard on this but generally speaking there is a difference between someone do it descretly under a shirt verses out in the open for all to see because it's their right....

A bus is a cramped place, if you don't like that sort of thing and a woman sits next to you and whips out her breasticle then you might complain.
It wouldn't bother me unless she was really open about it, like letting the other one hang loose as well. And it depends on who else is on the bus and how full the bus is!
Just because you have the right, doesn't mean it's always acceptable.

wait a sec... so it's perfectly acceptable for two dudes to make out in public?
But it's taboo for a mother to be taking care of her child in public if the need calls for it.

I ride the bus all the time. The most disgusting thing I've seen was a fat chick wolfing down a candied apple, even though there's supposed to be no eating on the bus. I'll take a woman breastfeeding over that any day.

what would you be concerned about?
that she splashes some breast milk on you or something?
There's nothing wrong with a mother feeding her child whatsoever which makes it a big shame that something like that happened.
I'm with sand man there - whoever complains is the one who gets off the bus if he doesn't like it - not the mother.

At parenting clubs we were told to be aware of people like some of you who feel uncomfortable with a mother breastfeeding her baby in public. My wife did it a few times and she always tried to put our baby under a blanket. I must say when you have baby crying and moving a lot that's not as easy as it seems.

Seen dozens of women do it and simply drap a piece of cloth (usually a small baby comforter) around them. It doesn't take that much effort and it saves them from both upsetting some people's sensibilities and being ogled by perverts. A win-win but as usual the slack jawed over emotional type will get up in arms about how "natural" it is. So is masterbation.....
Did they go overboard by kicking her off? Yeah. Could she have avoided it by bringing something to cover herself. Yeah.

I find it ironic that grown adults who were probably breast fed themselves complain about it.
If you are in the right, by default its acceptable. Although i find the way certain elements of society dress when rightly they look terrible, doesn't mean i can complain.

Without exception, every time I've seen a mother breastfeeding her baby, they've been discreet and only exposed the area of breast to allow the baby to feed, whereas you appear to believe that the mothers "whips out" their breast in some exhibitionist, inappropriate manner!
The mothers act of feeding her baby is natural, and there is no more natural form of baby feeding than by the breast.
You certainly seem the type to complain...

I for one hate the sound of screaming infants. Screaming toddlers is even worse. If all a mother has to do to shut one up is feed the little bastard, then I don't care where she is, she better get that teet out and shove the brat's face in it.

I was merely depicting situations where people would complain, do read the full post before ripping it apart!
After that I said it does not bother me unless it is really in my face, which doesn't happen when normal women breast feed :)
What do you mean I seem like the type to complain? Have my recent posts been rather complainy?
I've seen some breastfeedings in public, and mostly you don't see anything but a kid with a sweater around it and some lower neck skin/décolleté, but no **** action and less cleavage than on your average under 25 year old chick in a top...

How exactly do you mean "it does not bother me unless it is really in my face"? If it doesn't really happen when "normal" women breastfeed then why mention it here? You must be a real stud and gets annoyed when "normal women whips it in your face". Oh, man....

When I was a kid, we traveled by train and bus all the time (well, often)...my mother would feed my little sister (I was 4) and she would just drape a diaper over her shoulder, slide little Mary under, and take care of business...no one ever even noticed or paid the slightest bit of attention...except, on occasion some granny type would come by and smile at them.
When I had my sons, my wife breast fed them for the first three months...again, 1970's, not one single problem...ever.
I wonder if the primary religious group in Brit that objects to seeing even a woman's leg or even her face or hair has anything to do with these outlandish objections? I wonder if that is the reason the identity of the person objector seems so well hidden?

the MOOOOST retarded post on mp.net i have ever read (and sometimes the level is quite high)
you don't have a baby or even don't have friends with, right ???
because when a baby is really hungry you can leave him as long as you want, he will cry until he collapses of fatigue
and that may last for hours
a baby is not an adult, a kid or a child who can understand words; When you raise a brow and say wait, they understand the word wait
this is not the case of a baby
that would have been obvious if you were out of internet and got a real life

You make it sound like you never had any breast milk as a child. Mighty Freudian reply there, come to think of it.
I like staring at breasts, it's a primal man thing. But I'm not particularly attracted to milk-loaded breasts. They are slung lower and are swing wider, pretty much function over aesthetics. So anyone who notices and is disturbed by the sight of a mother breastfeeding a child (far more natural act than the need to pull over to say prayers), is to me a person with serious knocker issues.
