View Full Version : Tracy Residents Now Have To Pay For 911 Calls
TRACY, Calif. (CBS13) ―
Tracy residents will now have to pay every time they call 9-1-1 for a medical emergency.
But there are a couple of options. Residents can pay a $48 voluntary fee for the year which allows them to call 9-1-1 as many times as necessary.
Or, there's the option of not signing up for the annual fee. Instead, they will be charged $300 if they make a call for help.
"A $300 fee and you don't even want to be thinking about that when somebody is in need of assistance," said Tracy resident Greg Bidlack.
Residents will soon receive the form in the mail where they'll be able to make their selection. No date has been set for when the charges will go into effect.

You all have no idea just how bad things are getting here, or how completely inept our government is. the local budget is so bad that they are trying to get rid of volunteer firefighters and volunteer police patrols... all while those in power go on state sponsored vacations to another country.

A better idea, next time you call 911 over the wrong hamburger order. Charge $1 million plus arrest for stupidity.

*laughs* You haven't been to California recently, have you?
Welcome to Governator's California.
fixed it
Some people should maybe think twice before picking a retired action movie actor (and bodybuilder) as their governor... although I am sure he can't be blamed for all of the ****

Call it a users fee, unless you want to pay for more taxes.

It started with prop 13 and has been downhill since then.
Semantics aside this is also a tax. Call a tax a tariff, surcharge, fee, etc,. etc. Anything the government collects is and will always be a tax on that individual or group. Traffic tickets are also a form of taxes. We are already paying more in taxes by the way. Corruption in government is the problem not a lack of taxes. People need to be put out on the street in Sacramento, but their "special interests" who have long profited one way or another from this tax/debt leeching/stealing are keeping them in play. Thus ultimately the conclusion is that the people are just as corrupt given that they focus on one nearly meaningless and powerless man in the governor, because it allows their lackeys in Sacramento to continue to drain the state and people's life blood for their gain. The first day that the current governor announced his running for the position I predicted the same thing will continue to happen under him as did under Davis until there was no more blood to suck dry. California in high unemployment that prediction is coming ever truer every passing day.
It started with prop 13 and has been downhill since then.
Completely wrong. Sacramento and the thieves in that capital building would have figured out a way to blow that money on more blow, hookers and fast cars for themselves and friends. Try again. We could today hand over all our worldly possessions to the California government and they would be back to being broke in a matter of months.

What if you needed to call 911 from a pay phone....(I understand some here may not know what that is, or may not have ever seen one,)
"please insert three hundred dollars, for the first two minutes."
I think that would cut down on the dumb ass people using it and bogus calls. Calls that may place someone that really needs it on hold. One guy here in Florida called 911 because he didn't get all the topping he ordered at the Subway (you get to watch them put the sammich together you know). If it's a call like that then, yes, $300 bucks should be put on that clowns bill or let the cops break out the sticks.

Here's a crazy idea. In the area I live in, you get charged a fee for "nuisance calls" (BS 911 or other emergency calls), that tie up law enforcement and emergency service personnel. Why not institute that, instead of punishing everyone.

I blame California voters for the mess were in.
They take away the powers of the legislature through ballot measures and blame the policymakers for not doing thier jobs.
They don't want to tax themselves for basic goods and services, but are willing to pass bond measures so that their grandchildren are stuck for the bill.
They are duped by special intrests in getting ballot measures passed on the premise of seeking simple solutions for complex problems. In fact there's a multi-million dolllar voter initiative industry. Anyone or organization can pay political consultants to put any ballot measure and hire an army of petitioners who are paid $1.00 per signiature.
If they don't like a ballot measure, there's an army of lawyers for hire who will take it to the State Courts to correct it.
