I was wondering if anyone could tell me about the stable belts worn by British forces. Do all branches wear them? I know Royal Marines and Army wear them, how about Navy or RAF? What do the various colors represent? (Regimental colors I assume?) What is the tradition behind them.etc, etc. Any links would be appreciated.Thanks.

there the regimental colors usually with the regimental cap badge on a plate at the front. Why or how they came about no idea:)

The name comes from the belts worn by lads working in coveralls in the stables 100+ years ago.
The RN wear a navy stable belt on CS95, the RAF a blue, sky blue and red one on most forms of dress.
We used to wear them with demins (lightweights to the pongos out there), but I've forgotton the last time I wore mine.
Most army units seem to wear them in regimental colours ie Para reg - maroon, SAS - Oxford blue, LI/RGJ - Rifle Green etc...
Unlike us the army (particularly the Remfs) seem to wear them with CS95 more and more.
