a liitle update on the scar

scar update,

well the due date passed and the info i had hoped for did not come, but people in the know, have said that the only remaining entries are the colt, fn, lmt, and kac. rob arm got disqualified because they didnt include a blank adapter with each rifle.

and the others, well their rifles did not meat requirments, and suprisingly hk was one of those companies. while i normally am not hks biggest worshi... erm supporter, it seems unlike hk to half ass something.

but i have been told that all the companies worked without sleeping to come up with some interesting things. i am particularly curious about the fn, as the requirments seemed to disqulify any bullpups.

SCAR: SOF Combat Assault Rifle

It is to come in two major types, Light (5.56mm NATO) and Heavy (7.62mm NATO), with three configurations apiece: CQC, Standard (Carbine), and Sniper Variant. The SCAR-H is also supposed to accomodate caliber changes to 7.62x39mm and others.

The current selection process is concentrating upon the SCAR-L. The EGLM (Enhanced Grenade Launcher Module) is being thrown in the mix as well.

well, the while army decided to blindly follow the xm8 all the way through to adoption, socom decided to hold its own trials to adopt its own rifle so make sure they would get the best. instead of just looking at one possibility like the army(which is why i am opposed to the xm8 so much, among other reasons)

that program is call the scar. and all the units under the control of socom, such as the rangers, seals, green berets, usmc detachment one, and delta among others will be issued this rifle instead of the m16 or the xm8.

but the xm8 along with the scar are creating a hell of a mess with 3 rifles doing same thing being in service at the same time.

For some reason whenever I see people talking about the scar i always see people post pics of that stoner rifle.

well thats what i thought was gonna happen, but no, hk got kicked out because their rifle did not mean the requirments.

as for pics no, i dont have any.

and i think your talking aobut the m96, which was based on the older stoner designed m63a, which is commonly called the stoner. that was made by rob arm and is no longer in the running for the contract, sufferent same faith as hk, except they got disqualified because they did include blank adaptors for all the weapons.

I say mass test them all equip 3 brigades each with one of the types and test the hell out of em. Then choose the winner and box the loosing weapon up and send them out as aid.
