So are these guys like a territorial type force, ie non regular made up of sheep farmers etc or actually RF soldiers?
And why aren't they issued the SA-80?

I think they use normal Steyr AUG A1! Because i think Australia is not alowed to deliver to europe. They are only alowed to deliver to Countiers like New Zeeland, papa new guinea, indonesia,..

they are a TA like force the reason they did'nt by SA80 was the fO suplied the cash for new rifles and forgot to tell them to buy SA80 so they looked around and decided the steyr was the best for the job rofl
There were some rumours going around that they were planning to buy stingers and bofors bill as well for only 2000 islanders the falklands island goverment has an income of over £30 million from fishing licences alone
another reason not to join argentina that amount of cash would'nt covers a days intrest payments on the argentinas debt :(

The Malaysian Steyr Aug A3 will be different from the Aug 2. I'll get some more info from Janes Defence Weekly. To make things more complicated, our neighbour, Australia is also producing their own A3 variant:

Differences between the Aug2 and Aug3, but I bet you already know that Zentrum Jagdkampf

Specifications of the Malaysian Steyr Aug A3:
it can integrate-
1.a Picatinny Rail or Weaver Housing
2.optional 40mm grenade launcher
3.6x optical day/night sight instead of the Aug1's integral 1.5x optical sight
4.laser aiming device and high performance torch
A new butt group can be supplied to accept standard NATO magazines, and it will continue to be chambered for 5.56mm, but a barrel change will enable it to use the new US 6.8mm round for gretaer stopping power at ranges out to 500 metres.

What's the advantage of having a finger guard over the pistol grip? The FAMAS G2 also has it.

I served in the austrian special forces. The AUG is a very good weapon. You can change the barrel and transform it into a saw, sniper rifle or you take a shorter barrel for CQB. The plastic parts are easy to clean and you can change the optic (special feature of the A2 version). I like this gun!

Ah, I see! Yes, I have to agree with you, the AUG is a formidable weapon. The optics helped improved the shooting accuracy of troops, from what I heard from Malaysia, and the short length of the AUG proved a bonus in jungle warfare training.

Just for a comparison in length, we did an exercise up in Borneo with the Bruneians where we used their M16A2s, when we got back to Australia we got our austeyrs out of the armoury and I found myself instinctively grabbing it by the flash supressor, probably as much a difference in the length as with the bulpup design having a differnt pistol grip location.

Really, Glock? What's wrong with them? I thought that since it's licence produced in Malaysia, the quality would be the same as the others, no?

No, quality is very bad. It looks like a cheap copy of an AUG. Also most of the Malaysian AUG's have only an 20 shot mag.
