During a rant that lit up the blogosphere yesterday, an enraged U.S. Rep. Patrick Kennedy had to be gaveled quiet after ripping into what he called “despicable” media coverage of the war in Afghanistan.
The Rhode Island Democrat, who recently announced he won’t seek re-election, lashed out at the press during a debate on the House floor on a failed measure calling for the end of the war in Afghanistan.
“If anybody wants to know where cynicism is, cynicism is, there’s one, two press people in this gallery,” Kennedy shouted as he pointed up to the nearly empty press section.
“We’re talking about Eric Massa 24/7 on the TV. We’re talking about war and peace, $3 billion dollars, a thousand lives and no press? No press?
“The press, the press of the United States, is not covering the most significant issue of national importance . . . it’s despicable.”
The House voted 356-65 to reject the measure to pull troops out of the battlefield in Afghanistan.
As for former New York congressman Eric Massa, he resigned amid allegations he groped and ******ly harassed younger male staffers. http://news.bostonherald.com/news/politics/view/20100311patrick_kennedy_rants_on_press_as_despicable/srvc=home&position=5 I don't know if Kennedy would object to media's obsession over Massa affair if Massa were a Republican, but I agree with him that the U.S. media coverage of Afghanistan is despicable. People might need to establish special interest groups to lobby media executives for proper coverage of relevant news and not the horse$hit that we see everyday.
