China's refusal to allow an HIV-positive Australian author to enter the country has led to calls for the Beijing Government to change the law.

When in Beijing....

Whilst I don't necessarily agree with China on this one I think they have the right to set their own rules for these things within their borders.

AFAIK the US recently debated about changing the law to make it easier for HIV positive people to enter the US, it was a speech on HIV day by obama, but I don't know whatever became of it afterwards, currently i think the ban or special visa is still in effect in the US

On November 2, 2009 the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) published a final rule in the federal register amending its regulations to remove "Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infection" from the definition of communicable disease of public health significance and remove references to "HIV" from the scope of examinations for aliens.

We don't need more HIV cases in China. Very responsible and wise decision by the Chinese government.
