Hey y'all, I'd like some recommendations for military-related books that you can pick up and start reading, and pick it up again and read and read and read. Y'know, not novels, but pictury-info books that you never really finish reading, and if you do, you can look at them again and again.

I don't have them now, because they're at my mom's, but we had a Time-Life series on WWII...really good stuff. I bet they're collectors items by now.

Time's 21 Days To Baghdad would be good. Not allot of reading except captions but you can look at the pics for quite a while.

Here's some I have that I've enjoyed.

The Pocket Guide to Military Aircraft and the World's Air Forces by David Donald (Hamlyn Guide)

Great little book with almost every modern military aircraft you could imagine. It has overall specifications and a page or two on each aircraft, with some nice color photos for each. A great quick-reference when you want to remember general info about a particular military aircraft. Also has a nice listing in the back of all the world's air forces and which aircraft they use.

On Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0600603024/qid=1090550248/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i1_xgl14/103-0903920-8235832?v=glance&s=books&n=507846)

U.S. Naval Aviation by M. Hill Goodspeed, et al

Positively huge book on US Naval Aviation history. Huge color photos. Lots of information. Works great as a weight too.

Modern Military Uniforms by Chris McNab

Lots of neat drawings of soldiers with weapons and gear, with a blurb about the historical context for each one. Quite nice.

I know I'm being vague as to the type of book I want, and surprise surpise! that's because I'm not even sure.

I'm thinkin I like the Modern Uniforms one…

Of the ones I listed, both the one on Modern Uniforms and US Naval Aviation are pretty big. If you want to take one you can take with you, heck, even slap into your glove box, I'd take the Pocket Guide to Military Aircraft.

I bought this book a couple of months ago. A bit on the expensive side, but I love it. This book will completely brief you in on Naval Aviation and the pics are spectacular. Buuut, not exactly on the "Cofeetable" side. It's quite big.

Another good book is "To Be a U.S. Army Ranger" by Russ Bryant. I believe this is his official site. Go to the Rangers section. It will give you an idea on the type of pics in that book (there are tons of pics in this book btw). It's lightweight too. :)

I have this huge 1000+ page book of aircraft. Kinda aircrafted out. Even tho I love helos. Maybe like tanks or scouts cars or military vehicles in general? Kinda want a gun book too, but that's a wee bit hick-ish for me. What would be perfect is Medieval uniforms and tons of exotic weapons. Hehe, I sound kidna scary. Anyhoo, books with a uniform layout are good.

Thanks a bunch guys, again. I could look on Barnesandnoble.com or something, which I have, but you can never find THE book unless you ask.

We have one called Shooting Under Fire... it's not technically military (it's about photographers in war zones) but it is really neat.
