German City Ban Israel Flag, could ‘Interfere with Passers-by’

(IsraelNN.com) Kassel, Germany has banned the Coalition against Anti-Semitism from displaying the blue-and-white Zionist flag because it might upset passers-by and threaten them, the nordhessische.de news service reported. However, city officials previously have approved showing the Iranian flag.

A woman identified by the news service as “Dorothee H.” said that officials told her she could not display the Israeli flag at an information booth she wanted to set up. Pro-Israelis previously have been threatened and attacked by anti-Zionist protestors in Germany.

“I told him that I could not understand this, and that we were not at all dangerous,” Dorothee H. said, but the city official said the booth could be set up only on condition that no Israeli flags were shown. The unnamed official told her that she had to be “considerate” of others.

Dorothee charged that “the employees of the public order told me that all the political information booths will be automatically reported to the national security. This is absurd. You expect the authorities to guarantee freedom of expression, rather than restricting them.”

“A supporter of the group's claim added, "If somebody attacked the activists, the state must just intervene protectively."

Oh-oh.

Before some people start screaming "They're all anti-Semites! Nazis!!!": Showing flags at information booths, regardless of which nation, is generally forbidden in Germany.

As for the Iranian flag: IsraelNN.com fails to mention that the exil Iranians showed the Iranian flag at a lawful applied assembly, which is no problem. If they want to show their flag at an info booth though, they'll get the same answer as Mrs. Dorothee H.

The TS loves to post from this website. IMHO a big problem for jews in Germany are the millions of muslims here. If jews want to put up booths they risk being insulted by those or worse, at least these days

Whenever Isreal is mentioned on these forums it seems Iran has to be mentioned as well! Come on, stop with the flaming threads, there is no need for them.

Not to mention the fact that 99.99% of all Iran connected demonstrations or political expressions in Germany are against the current regime, either by exiled pro shah or by iranian exile leftist groups and more recently by both combined.
So displaying the iranian flag is in most cases not a statement against Israel but against the iranian regime..
Actually if there's one political group I never heard of staging a demo in Germany it is pro Achmadinejad Iranians.

And plus it is a German city afterall. The only flag that is relevant in there is the German flag, you are bound to get passers by wondering why there is X flag flying in his country.

Would be nice to hear some words from the topic starter...or is someone shamed of a failed flame attempt?

Even with the mideast conflict and such, and I'm rather pro israeli myself:
Downtown Kassel is hardly the place where the mideast conflict will be decided.
If banning an israeli flag is necessary to keep innocent bystanders from being hurt by the "outrage" crowd, I'm all for it.
Nothing will be gained for Israel by brawls over information booths in a rather dull mid german industrial town.
Or do you want to tell someone who just went shopping that he got hit by a rock thrown by one of our friendly arab residents for the sake of Israel?
Will Israel pay the hospital bill?

No one said Germany and it's people in general are anti-Semites, that's just nonsense, but if what you say is right then I'm quite relieved, there are still freedom of speech, opinion etc...

Blame INN, it's not a flame attempt.

It's not a flame attempt to start with, and I haven't replied until now because I didn't had time to go here.

True enough, have distant family members who are Persians who came from Iran after the revolution and completely disagree with the mad mullahs that run the country.

Plus if i dont like the israeli politics im antisemitic?

Not really, I myself don't agree with many of it's secular roots/institutions, in the other hand if you reject the creation/existence of the state of Israel, then yes you are.

To some people, naturally.

Sarcasm doesn't make you clever.

Right... Freedom who needs it after all, it's those pesky Jews/Israelis so it's OK... I'm not calling you anti-Semite but protecting the aggressor and not the victim, that's well dumb.

That's exactly the point, but it's not the first time you post from this site and I think you read it before posting.

Not the first and surely not the last.

Yes and read before posting, but as I said before it was a mistake by INN, and everyone makes mistakes. Either way I posted in here to obtain confirmation or details about it, fortunatly INN was wrong in this case.

I'm pretty sure I'm right on this one. ;)

Checked the mentioned German news article and to cut a long story short: INN pretty muched failed with their translation and interpretation.

No sireebob, I've read that was the spongy grey blob in me skull that did. ;)

And I entirely second Warder's demand. An avatar of that degree of curvaciousness deserves HD format indeed.
