I own an M-44 and I bought it for $180 dollars. It was made in 1945. I was wondering if the value is higher in the US if there is no US armory stamp on it or if the hammer and sickle with the manufacture's symbol is on it?

M44s are pretty common, so I'd say that it was an okay price. I think supplies are starting to dry up though, so perhaps prices will rise in the future. Mind you supplies of cheap surplus ammunition are dwindling too, so that may have an adverse effect on the desirability of Mosins.

yes, but strangely enough here in Belgium, while prices of mosins are rising, prices of mauser 98k are in freefall

That would mean it arrived in the USA prior to 1968, the 1986? law allwed them in with Import stamps on the reciever.

I had a M44 remanufactured (originally a winchester of all things) that I got for $25 at a Killeen Pawn shop in 1982. It came then with Capture Paperwork from 1st Cavalry Division and a South Vietnamese export permit.

There was no finish to speak of(Brown Patina), but it shot well and the bore was good. I gave it to a Buddy's father (He was Oklahoma Highway Patrol and a Korea vet) since Ammo was horrifically expensive at the time for it (Norma $25 for 20 rounds).

I got my M44 for $150 and its a 1 on that scale. I want to get a 91/30 or shorter carbine without the bayonet.
