just cause I am bored, but I was wondering what type of organization do the rest of the world use as far as squads. How many soldiers? 8, 12 or more? How many and what type of weapons? Fire teams? Anything and everything that one could think of I would guess.

This isn't a who's better thread (as those are stupid) I am just interested in how different countries/services organize themselves. Might prove interesting.

But lets keep it civil shall we ;)

Are you American? If so, Army or Marine?

I am American. As for the question....both. I just think it'd be interesting to see all the different approaches that are taken to establish the basic unit (at least for infantry units).

eg, if say a German squad is 4 men, and an American one is 12...why? Does the German one have some advantage that allowes them to only use 4 men?

That sorta stuff. Like I said...I am just bored.

Gotcha. I was a Marine. Our rifle squads were supposed to be 13 Marines (3 fire teams of 4 men, w/ a SAW, 2 rifles, and a rifle/grenade launcher) under the command of a sergeant. In reality, they usually had 9 or 10 guys, under a corporal. Sometimes, when we came off deployment and the "salty" Marines left us, our squads would number 4 or 5, and a lance corporal would be in charge.

British sections were made of of two fire teams of 4 one led by a Lance corporal and the other led by a corporal who was also the section commander.
Now the armanmant of the section will be Two Miminis and Two grenade launchers and four rifle men.

What about the LSW? I've heard we're still gonna use them (for f**k sake why!?)

An Australian section has a corporal in charge, two scouts, a lance corporal in charge of two diggers in the gun group and a rifle group with three diggers. This is not the norm though, most sections are under strength due to manning, injuries, courses ect.
