I would like to know more about how the mechanism actually feeds the next round into the chamber.

I've been looking on the internet for schematics and cross sectional drawings for belt fed machine guns, like the m249, m60, mg3, and/ or Browning. No luck yet.

Does anyone have any such information?

Most MGs are pretty straight forward. As the bolt moves forward it strips a round of the link and pushes it in the champer

I think there's also a schematic for the M2 Browning machine gun and the Mauser revolver autocannon. I had the latter on a GIF image.

The M2 however has different and quite complex mechanism.

Edit: Found the Mauser MK 213 auto-cannon animation
