What if They Gave a Klan Rally and Nobody Came?

They really ought to call them the Ku Klutz Klan.

This Saturday, the Church of the National Knights of the Ku Klux Klan — a once-powerful organization that in 1960 coordinated more than 1,000 simultaneous cross burnings in a frightening display of Southern resistance to desegregation — held a rally in Gloverdale, S.C. It was attended by a single Klansman: state leader Tim Bradley.

Not making an appearance were the 1,000 people from four states that a confederate of Bradley’s had predicted. A promised speech never materialized, only endless rounds of Bradley giving interviews to local reporters while some 100 curiosity-seekers looked on. And the 30 or so Klansmen who Bradley said were headed to the rally that day? Well, they got lost on the way from North Carolina. Bradley kept telling reporters his comrades were about to arrive. But they never did......

......After completing his one-man show, Bradley — who at one point shook hands with two black high school students doing a project on the Klan —decided the rally had been a success. Without any evidence to back him up, and pretty much everything seeming to contradict him, he said the rally had netted him 27 new members

This asshole Potok has been screaming about the meteoric rise of {Hate Groups} since Obama took a Office, and apparently believed his own hype. This is the Idiot from the Grifter group SPLC is where DHS's Napolitano got the Iraq/Afganistan Veterans=right wing terrorist theory from.

I'm glad the 1,000 members were too scared about coming out in public or they couldn't be bothered.
Better than them all showing up.
I wonder if this made front page news or on TV it would dissuade people from joining this group.

LD,I'm not sure where you're getting that DHS thinks anyone who served in Iraq/Afghanistan from, as that's not what the actual report said, but that's for a different thread. As for the idiot in this story, it would have been far better if the media had just ignored him, instead of giving him the free publicity he apparently wants.

I think the publicity of no one showing up speaks volumes in regards to the utter contempt and irrelevancy those sheet wearing cvnts represent.

I also think it has a lot to do with people realizing anyone dumb enough to show up, would be under the constant observation of law enforcement.

That's never stopped them previously though. Potok has been running around fearmongering that Potential Timmy McVieghs are everywhere when it isnt true.

SPLC has a Habit of yelling the Sky is falling to grift money. Of those hundreds of Right wing hate groups Potok has counted the New Black Panther Party, Nation of Islam chapters, Black Israelites, Atzlan, etc.

Hardly Right Wing, Hate groups they may be. If he was honest he would have made the distinctions, but then Donations dont come filling Morris Dees Coffers. The Public Perception is KuKluxKlowns and Chicago Nazis run amok when the rise isnt white supremiscist asshole groups, but assholes of color groups..... Those Hutari schmucks were formed in 2008, not after Obama was sworn in.

Just be Honest, something SPLC doesn't do very well.

There's been a rise in extremist groups across the board, and they run the full gamut of political affiliation. While the SPLC does a half way decent job of tacking the various groups, be warned you need to take some of their presentations with a grain of salt, as they're not exactly unbiased in some of their reporting. They play the game, for maximum political gain. As far as the groups themselves go, the general public doesn't have a clue as to who they are, or what they do, which is why law enforcement tries to provide them with info on potential threats.

problem is, i think there are ppl who will attend, and it will only strengthen their resolve.

and if no ppl attend, they'll just try harder to spread their hateful messages

I'm not sure about that. Kooks have always been around. I'm not sure that they are more united now than before and I haven't seen any conclusive study done on them that wasn't biased in some way. SPLC likes to make a big deal about them but it is in their interest to do so so I don't give their studies much credibility.

What I do know is that in the last 10 years the extremist kook organizations have fallen apart around here. We used to be a hotbed of that kind of activity from the 70-90s before the OKC bombing and the Aryan Nations collapsed. Now there are just a couple of guys grumbling in their cabins and every blue moon handing out flyers.

There should be enough white pride idiots to take this as an offense.

You realize the Klan is Anti-Catholic, as well as Anti Semitic, Anti Black? They tried to burn a cross on my grandfathers lawn in the early 1920's on long island as he was a "Papist"

His Shotgun being brandished disabused them of the nights festivities
