This story comes from; http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/howaboutthat/7585500/Family-on-42000-a-year-benefits-because-they-are-better-off-unemployed.html
The Davey family get £42,000 a year in benefits to fund a four-bedroom home and two cars, including a Mercedes, but still feel they are entitled to more.
Peter Davey, 35, a father of seven, gave up work in administration nine years ago because he realised he would be better off on state handouts. He and his wife Claire, 29, who is seven months pregnant, believe they deserve their £815-a-week benefit cheque and are open about feeling no guilt that they live at the expense of the taxpayer.
Their home, a semi-detached house on the Isle of Anglesey, is complete with 42 inch flat screen television, Sky TV at £50 a month, a computer and three expensive games consoles, as well as four mobile phones. The family also run a Mercedes people carrier and an 11 seater minibus. However, they still feel there is little to be grateful for.
Mrs Davey, who has never had a full-time job, told Closer magazine: "It's hard. We can't afford holidays and I don't want my kids living on a council estate and struggling like I have. "I don't feel bad about being subsidised by people who are working. I'm just working with the system that's there. "If the government wants to give me money, I'm happy to take it. We get what we're entitled to. I don't put in anything because I don't pay taxes, but if I could work I would. "We couldn't afford to care for our children without benefits, but as long as they have everything they need, I don't think I'm selfish."
Mr and Mrs Davey met 13 years ago in a pub and had their first child, Jessica, a year later. They then went onto have Jade, ten, Jamie-Anne, eight, Harriet, six, Adele, four, the couple's only son Tie, three, and Mercedes, two. The couple now receive weekly payments of £439 in income support, £87 in housing benefits, £99 child benefit, £18 council tax benefit. That is on top of a carer's allowance of £53 and a disability living allowance of £119 to support their son who suffers with a skin disorder.
"It cost too much to carrying on working as we were actually better off unemployed," said Mr Davey. The family still ensure they do not go without, splashing out on four presents for each child on their birthdays and £2,000 for family gifts at Christmas. And they intend to expand their family by another seven children, bringing the total to 14. "I've always wanted a big family – no one can tell me how many kids I can have whether I'm working or not," said Mrs Davey.

I get that she's 'working the system', but please don't fcuking say you're 'getting what you are entitled to', especially not when you are perfectly capable of working. And 14 kids? Someone please punch this woman in the uterus.

Taxes? Civil-War?Revolution by actual tax payers? My guess is that this charade will go on long while more in the meantime the young and the responsible get taxed to ****. When the party ends I'd like to be there and celebrate it. The entitlement party is currently on it's third run of a fifth beer run on a party. I'm guessing as the party runs its course things will get ever more crazy/stupid. I know this is a UK story, but we have some similar crap going on here in the U.S. Tax time pisses me off to no ends.

The Davey family's £815-a-week state handouts pay for a four-bedroom home, top-of-the-range mod cons and two vehicles including a Mercedes people carrier.
Father-of-seven Peter gave up work because he could make more living on benefits.
Yet he and his wife Claire are still not happy with their lot.
With an eighth child on the way, they are demanding a bigger house, courtesy of the taxpayer.

Anyways, with that fixed, lets continue. Since the family now has the public spotlight on them, maybe government will realize what they're up to now and pull the plug on them. Would love to see their reaction when told they have to work in order to earn a living.

Once apon a time, being on welfare was something to be ashamed about. No longer.
And when Bismarck introduced the pension system, the life expectancy at time was so low that it wasn't going to be a issue. Hardly anyone reached the pension age.
How times change.

We all hate to see stories like this and I don't know a soul who condones these peoples behavior, yet it seems the madness will continue forever with no accountability from those who have the power to make a change. A member of Mp.net stated it best, when we let the genie of free money to those who felt maligned by society out of the box, that box top was never going back on. Everyone it seems hates entitlement payout's yet they continue unabated at great cost to all other's. My only conclusion is those in power receive financial benefit's from these programs and that's why they continue. Andrew

It's because it is guaranteed votes. If you get people dependent on your welfare schemes they will vote for you every time.

I've always wanted a big family – no one can tell me how many kids I can have whether I'm working or not," said Mrs Davey.
For some reason, the movie "Idiocracy" keeps springing to mind...what great values these 14 kids will be brought up with, then they willl have 1-14 more kids, then they will have...
I saw a doco about teenage mothers in Britain, the 15 year old mum to be had some medical condition - not life threatening, but the girl's mother decided to chuck work in and go on benefits - "To help her with her daughter's stress" at home...FFS!

The US isn't as bad yet but I think we're heading that way. I read an article yesterday that pissed me off. It stated that 47% of US taxpayers pay no federal income taxes!! Almost half the people!

I pay quite a bit in taxes and am furious. I left the UK hoping to get away from crap like the orginal article but can see the US is heading in the same direction....

I dont know why you racist guys are bashing the poor people. It is not their fault they are poor, good thing the Government is doing its job and taking money from those rich greedy white jews and giving it to these unfortunate people. The government should do more of this and take the money from those that dont deserve it and give it to the poor. Redistribute the wealth

No, but we can tell her how much and how many we are willing to pay for. I don't care if she has 14 kids from 14 fathers, that's their business. She is not going to steal from me without a fight. She should be fined and / or jailed for any children over the average. A whole school class will have to be built for her kids, plus a dedicated teacher for her family, and partial use of a doctor and clinical services, a social worker, a larger prison, and 140 extra police ;-)
This family will probably be costing over a million per year very shortly, if not already.
I'm from Ireland, and I see the same entitled b@stards whinging about their not getting enough and costing 000's per week, all the time in some huge house with the plasma screen, sky subscription and fags etc.
My taxes are my business, and what the politicians do that I elect and pay for, well that's my business too. Who you gonna call?

Gimme a break Min. Workers pay taxes so these slobs can watch TV. Rich remain rich, while the middle class (or what's left of it) is being sucked try by government programs and benefits for lazy people.
Like everyone I'm immensely pissed off by this kind of behaviour though I'm kind of glad to see that it's a white family with a British name - sort of forces home the point that immigrants aren't the only people screwing the system over which seems to be something a lot of people here believe.

Rich gets richer due to tax cuts due to a misplaced belief in trickle-down policies which have failed over and over again.
The US is one of the only OECD countries where income inequality keeps on increasing. They are in the same league as Brazil, China and Malaysia now. I predict the same kind of social instability in the US in the coming decades. Especially when the working poor will finally understand there is no such thing as an american dream.
And yes, I m well aware this story took place in the UK, but seeing that the UK and US are ideologically quite similar..

Class warfare, wasn't my point. My point was if we are taxed more than before it's partly due to families like in the article.
They should at least do some kind of community service.
I guess the community service they are doing is tipping the future demographic balance back a bit to the white side :)

Guys...I think Min is trolling XD
Also, i lol'd irl. Im proud to say even though our family def could qualify for welfare as we are poorish, we still didn't take welfare, or food stamps, or any handouts.
And we really shouldn't blame the present welfare problem on the welfarers too much. After all, when these programs were first introduced as part of a progressive society, here at least, the people who went out in search of people to enroll in the programs, they found blacks the hardest group to convince, in a time when nearly everyone, even the dirtest of poor wouldn't take a government handout. They got poor people to accept by saying things along the line of "THINK OF THE CHILDREN". As Jonah Goldberg says, children are the achilles heel of a democracy, or any society, as unscrupulous people can exploit our natural impulse to care for children. And we rightfully so do not change, as children are the most precious.

How bout clock their unemployment salary down to a point where they are living in fvcking squalor. Then lets see if Mr. Davey can find the motivation to get off his ass and earn a living instead of watching T.V. and eating twinkies all day.
When hes living in a two bedroom ****-roach infested flat, then he'll get a damned job.

I'm going home to watch the UK Election debate...sounds like there were a HUGE list of pre-conditions and control measures attached to it...I wonder how it compares to debate agreements from a deacde or two ago?

She doesn't want her kids growing up on a council estate like she had to. I grew up on one, so did my brothers obviously, my best mates from school all became either graduates, railwaymen or cops (bar one hopeless junkie but even he finished an apprenticeship before he went totally of the rails), My brothers all work, my dad worked up to retirement day and tried to hide from the HR department so well that the director of land services and the deputy provost of the city of Glasgow were at his leaving drinks with him, when the personnel officer turned up to look for him.
Glad there enough of us working to support them, I would hate for them to have to make decisions and choices that will bring up their kids to be useful members of society.

I think it's the capitalism at it's best. If you analyze cost/benefits, perhaps it makes more sense not to work. At the same time, why nobody is angry that 1% of people own 90% of all wealth? Doesn't that seem a bit screwed up?

It is more simple and cheaper to pay people so that they do not need to work, than force them to work and create jobs. Because they are not needed in current economy, just eradicate them would be problematic. So it is more simple to pay them, so they do not need to work.
Do not know how to call it.
In USSR there was a right to work. And even if you do not want to work you would be forced by law. Effective method to combat crime and marginals.

What about what people expect to get? Everyone thinks they are entitled to a huge house, a huge TV and three cars, but they don't NEED all those things. Even those of us on welfare now are doing better than many of the working class only a few years ago. Wages increase, then the cost of living increases, then wages have to go up again - a never ending cycle. Whilst government policy allows people on welfare to breed like rabbits the problem will remain. Make it harder for them to live on welfare, maybe the men might find jobs, the women will cross their legs and their offspring will have better role models, breaking the welfare cycle.
