France Halts Egyptian Anti-Semitic Broadcasts
by Hana Levi Julian
The French government has ordered a local satellite carrier to halt broadcasts by an Egyptian TV channel due to anti-Semitic content. The carrier, Eutelsat, was told by the French State Audiovisual Council (CSA) this month to block the Al Rahma channel, which it said violated a law prohibiting “incitement to hatred or violence based on religion or nationality.”
The Council cited in its decision an October 2009 program broadcast on the Al Rahma channel that showed Jews in a “demonizing and degrading fashion.”
The broadcast featured Egyptian Islamic cleric Hazem Shuman exhorting his viewers against Jews: “Your turn has come at last, you offspring of apes and pigs, you most accursed creatures created by Allah, you people who have harmed the Prophet again and again... It has been proven that the Jews are like a cancer – if they are not removed from the body of the nation, they will kill the entire nation.”
The New York-based Anti-Defamation League (ADL), noted the Egyptian channel often justifies murdering Jews and has blamed the Holocaust on Jewish “corruption.” The organization's national director, Abraham H. Foxman, immediately issued a statement of strong praise for the decision by the French government.
“The Egyptian media has no shame when it comes to anti-Semitic media portrayals of Jews. Al Rahma has a long history of spreading the most vile anti-Semitic incitement, and the decision taken by France is an important step in combating it,” said Foxman.
“We urge the European Union to follow the French lead and expand the ban to all member states, just as EU regulators did after France took action against Al Manar, Hizbullah's media arm,” he added. (IsraelNationalNews.com)

Seems France is the only one doing things right in EU.

Good that they halted the broadcasts.
But unfortunately France is no2 after Britain in anti-semitic incidents in Europe, as the recent study by Hebrew University of Jerusalem shows. So there's still lots to do to fight anti-semitism in Europe and in the world.
here's an article about the study (couldn't find the pdf of the study at the moment):

You cant blame France or Europe, they have larger populations of Muslims than Jews, its unavoidable that theres gonna be large incidents of anti semitism in situations like that.

Not sure whether there really is a link or if it's bias on my part (or the media's part), but from what I've seen in France, these incidents "often" (that's subjective) involve youths who are descendants (grandchildren) of migrants from North Africa.
We certainly have some racist asses who are "true" French (not tanned, and "here" for as long as can be remembered), but they tend to be rather discreet.

Don't worry, we're behind US incidents IIRC. ;)
I find it worrisome and sad that while Israel apparently is in peace with Egypt, the latter stars in its anti-Semitic and anti-Israeli rhetoric through the Arab world.

From the posted article:
The study found the highest number of violent anti-Semitic incidents was in Britain, which was followed by France. There were 374 incidents in Britain in 2009, more than triple the number in 2008.
Lets recap: Britain = highest. France = second highest. And remember the US has 5 times the population of UK.

What is odd is the huge discrepancy in numbers from study to study. The Anti-Defamation League's Audit of Anti-Semitic Attacks listed 1,460 antisemitic incidents in the US in 2007, and 1,352 in 2008, giving precise details about geographic repartition and type of attack (info here (http://www.adl.org/PresRele/ASUS_12/5537_12.htm)).
This new study finds 394 attacks in the UK, 195 in France, and 116 in the US, and the article says the number of attacks doubled?

There are problem with reporting systems and they get pretty complicated when national borders are crossed. First is the same definition of the crime used? Do citizens report those crimes freely or have some cultural, legal or ?? barrier in blocking them from reporting the crime. Also what reports are considered valid and are they investigated as to terms to validity. Those are a few I can think of right now. A higher incident of reports does not expressly say that the country has more crime than another country with lower reports.

is this part of TV show available at youtube or anywhere else ?

population does not matter here. the number of muslim immigrants, that's what matters. AFAIK, in france, people with arab origin are responsible for most of the incidents against jews. or i'm wrong ?
the discrepancy in numbers might be because of different definitions: an "incident" is not always an "attack" for example: perhaps a study counts everything, from spray-painting svastikas on tombs to torching synagogues to physically assaulting people, whereas the other would only consider violence against persons

No, it doesn't quite work like that - if there was a direct link between Muslim immigrants and anti-semitic attacks, then how could the UK (est. 2.4 million Muslim population, 394 attacks) have twice as many antisemitic attacks than France (5 million Muslims, 195 attacks)? And how would you explain the anti-semitic attacks in the US?

That's what I thought initially, but the ADL's figures distinguish physical assaults from antisemitic vandalism from harassment, and that still does not match the study quoted by the JPost either.

I guess it boils down to where the immigrants are from. The bulk of Muslim immigrants in the UK are from Pakistan and Bangladesh. Also I guess the French government has a tighter leash on the radicals than say in UK. When was the last time French troops coming back from a war were called "Baby Killers" on their own soil?

Possibly. Also, 80% of French Muslims profess to have a good opinion of Jewish people IIRC. I would have thought Pakistanis would have more beef with Hindus than with Jews?

Algeria, but throughout the 1970s the Army was dubbed "The School of Crime" by a good part of the Left.

You are right. I also assume that Pakistanis have more beef with Hindus and Sikhs. Actually they have a beef with India which they see as a Hindu nation not remembering the fact that India has the third largest Muslim population in the world.
As Pakistan was created on the basis of the religion of Islam they see themselves as self styled protectors of the world wide ummah. After the Islamisation of society by Gen.Zia and the acquistion of nuclear weapons their belief that they are the leaders of the Ummah was further strenghtened. The newer generation of Pakistanis are further radicalised due to the war on terror and thus we see a Pakistan connection in a number of terror attacks (both successful/ unsuccessful) in the US, Europe, India, Russia, Indonesia and Phillipines. They fail to realise that this leader of the Ummah is kept alive by aid from the US and China with the Saudis occassionally chipping. The rest of the Ummah doesnt really give a damn.
Besides the whole Palestnian issue, where they see their Muslim bretheren being oppressed by the Jews, the same Pakistani youth also see the war on terror being fought on Israel's behalf by the US and are doctrined by radiclas about the impending take over of the world by the evil juice. Add to this the growing military co-operation between India and Israel especially Israel help to India in anti-terror operations in Kashmir and there you have it. The problem lies with the clerics and madrassas even in the UK which continue indoctrine these youth that there is a world wide conspiracy against Muslims by the Yankees, Yehudis and Yindus.

That was before the Left started using the Army more than the Right ever had.
With Britain at 394 antisemitic attacks, will we see op-eds urging British Jews to emigrate?

From an indian point of view.
