Colesburg - Without owning land, voting in South Africa means nothing, ANC Youth League leader Julius Malema told a youth rally in the Northern Cape on Saturday.
Malema told the crowds that South Africans did not own their own country.
"This land belongs to foreigners," he said. He said people needed land to feed themselves and to do business as citizens.
The so-called willing buyer, willing seller system was not helping the government in the land redistribution program.
"You need land to do everything. Without land voting means nothing," he said.
Malema said South Africans can vote until they are purple.
He said as long as they did not have the economy of South Africa their votes were useless.
"You vote and you still go beg," he said.
Malema said people have voted every five years in the past and still workers get beaten and killed by farmers, because they do not own those farms.
He said the country's political freedom would mean nothing if a practical programme of intervention on property issues was not decided.
He said people in townships were still squatting in property which they call land.
Opposite this, he said, were people with small families who owned huge land as "big as countries."
Malema said he was told one should not talk politics of land and property or nationalisation because it would scare investors away.
"They invest in countries where there are civil wars. " he said, adding that people should not believe the "lies" that investors would be scared off by talks of nationalisation.
Malema said Investors did not care about people and that they were interested in making profit.
He also said if investors were to leave, the Chinese would come in.
"The Chinese will work with anybody," he said.

We all know what will happen in the end. The blacks will take the land owned by the whites. And then everything will start going down the toilet just like in Zimbabwe.

Well according to:
www.bilaterals.org
SA seems to have several investment treaties, which would be rather hard to simply expropriate foreign land owners (without appropriate compensation - The Hull formula) for their investments.
Not knowing more about SA policies and BIT's (bilateral treaties), I would assume that SA nationals have access to lower financing costs for agriculture projects vis-a-vis foreigners. There tends to be built in exceptions to help national investors for agriculture.

Just to be 100% clear here... The foreigners this guy is referring to are South African born whites, not people from other countries.

Malema is for the ANC what "Hitler" Hunzvi was for the Zanu-PF.

Malema sounds a lot like Thomas Jefferson. Ironic, as you you'll raise a fuss over Malema but remain silent on the topic of land appropriation (and massacre) of Native Americans.
Goes to show that "White is Right" and that we haven't changed since the end of Jim Crow.

A big difference, is that the blacks in africa are totally unable to do anything at all with the land they 'appropriate'. They take it - and then starve. I'm starting to wonder if they're all retards, like in Zimbabwe. How in the hell are anybody able to make such a mess of a place that is so well suited to agriculture? The only solution, politically incorrect as it is, is that they are retarded and only able to function under white rule.

South Africa black-owned farms 'failing'
Some 90% of farms redistributed to South Africa's black population from white farmers are not productive, the government has said.
Land reform minister Gugile Nkwinti warned the land might be repossessed if the farms continued to fail.
Almost 60,000 sq km (23,000 sq miles) have been redistributed under policies aimed at benefiting black people who were left impoverished by apartheid.
The land was bought from white farmers who sold up voluntarily.
The BBC's Pumza Fihlani in Johannesburg says some black farmers are likely to argue that they have been struggling to get the resources and skills to develop their land.
And repossessing the land would provide a whole new problem for the government, our correspondent says, as any move to return the land to its former white owners is bound to be controversial.
Sensitive issue
The government had set a target of 2014 to redistribute one-third of white-owned land back to the black majority.
But Mr Nkwinti acknowledged that the deadline would not be kept.
He said the focus would now shift to helping the black farmers make their land productive.
"The farms - which were active accruing revenue for the state - were handed over to people, and more than 90% of those are not functional," he said.
"They are not productive, and therefore the state loses the revenue. We cannot afford to go on like that... No country can afford that."
At the end of apartheid in 1994 almost 90% of land was owned by the white community, which made up less than 10% of the population.
Land reform is a sensitive issue in South Africa and has been brought into sharp focus by the decline of agriculture in neighbouring Zimbabwe, where many white commercial farmers have been violently evicted.

Don't know, but to me he sounds a lot like "Melena" which refers to a tarry, bloody stool (and not the kind you sit on either).
It's not so much that the African population is "stupid", it's just farming is not a part of their culture. If you threw a bunch of white people in a hunter-gatherer situation, they would most likely starve. That's essentially what these African politicians are doing when they try to make Africans farm. It's not as easy as throwing seeds on the ground and relax until harvest. It's a tedious job, and there's always something to do, everyday. They need an education in agriculture to understand that, but they also refuse to go to school.
If you put a bunch of uneducated Africans in charge of a farm, nothing will grow. The likes of Malema and Mugabe don't seem to understand that putting nationalism in front of common sense is a recipe for disaster.

Fixed it for you. Mugabe and Malema are not interested in true nationalism or anything comparable to it. There are much like Nazis and seek racial/tribal superiority and control over the rest.

Sydor , that Thomas Jefferson analogy , rediculous and knee-jerk. Put emphasis on the last half of term.
When it comes to the land issue , let us clear up some local relevant issues.
The ANC has had 16 years to settle the land problem , and totally messed it up. Yes there are reparations to be made with regard to land. But the facts are never considered.
1. The historical owners of SA are the San. Today named the Bushmen. Go anywhere in SA and you would find San paintings. So out of the window goes the Nguni , Sotho-Tswana , Tsonga and Venda claim.
2. The majority of SA land was fought over and conquered in stages. First the Nguni rolled over the San , as did the Sotho-Tswana ,Tsonga and Venda before getting owned by the English. And then came the Afrikaners that are from the Dutch/French and German.
3.The Nguni,Tsonga,Venda and the Sotho-Tswana have allways been in Africa a society of cattle farmers , that is why two of our local breeds of cattle are called the Nguni and Tswana. So agriculture (ie crops) is not going to happen.
4.The ANC calls for the redistribution of land along with their "revolutionary" doctrine. I've lived in Moz and spent some time in Bob's Zim, What a FFFFF Farce!.
5. Malema wants the land to be opened in classical Commie style for farming. Hunger here we come.

No...he sound very much like Mugabe. People will be quick to agree with his "Kill the land owners...they are depriving you of your nation" ideas...but, then, after they have done the dirty deeds...they will simply eat the seed, slaughter the producing cattle...and then starve to death on land they have no experience in making fertile.
Nothing new with this guy...he merely hawks the typical communist utopia garbage...something free...for all to share...mainly Starvation and misery.
