Hey folks,

a couple weeks ago I bought this item online (the caption said " PLCE ISSUE OG BASHA)
http://img709.imageshack.us/img709/3931/basha.jpg (http://img709.imageshack.us/i/basha.jpg/)

Since we don't get bashas or "tarps" issued I thought bout gettin this. It sounded pretty good.
While unpacking the package I noticed that theres no NSN like every Military item has.

Question for the British members:
Do you know if this basha is issued?

Thanks in advance!

the arrow would look a bit like this /i\ but with the middle tail a bit longer and have a date under it.

how thick is it?

the basha we got issued was in DPM. upto they, which was mid nineties, it was the old '58 pattern poncho which had a hood on it. this didnt have loops on it like the one in the picture but ringlets.

the basha we have today (from the mid nineties) has loops but i cant ever remember there being a green one....even when we had green PLCE.

what does it look like opened up?

Well, the sh!t could be very wet and a sh!tty basha will not keep you dry.

x2 you are right mate. But this Basha doesn't look like some 0815 stuff.

Does the stamp(located in one of the corners) look like this?
'SHELTER LIGHTWEIGHT INDIVIDUAL' ( LIGHTWEIGHT SLEEPING EQUIPMENT) NSN 8465-765-4581 , A197 CT3a /7685.
The one I've got,so far as I know is, Australian. For years the olive green/'jungle green 'lightweight shelter sheets' issued to British Forces in tropical/jungle regions(together with the 'Mattress pnuematic, section') were Australian or shelters patterned after it.

It looks like the old 70's/80's jungle bashas that were on issue for, well, the jungle.

Made out of lighter, rubberised fabric than the old poncho, and about the size of the new basha.

Yours might be an unissued one, but if there's no label then it's probably a new reproduction. Doesn't matter as long as it works though.

I had an original but it stank of vomit from the treatment applied to it, so I hardly used it.

So, I double checked it yesterday and there's no "arrow" on it.

Guess that means, I'll find out soon, if it keeps me and the gear dry, or not.

Anyways the offer said, its made in England so I hope, it ain't no crap!

Theres a firm in the UK called Fox who make bashas. They make them in OG ie not camo and are good gear.

Without seeing it open I don't know, but it could be the old lightweight stretcher, the 70s jungle basha or just a non-issue copy/rip off.
