I am looking at adding a supressors to a AR-10 SASS built by Noveske Rifle Works. I was wondering what choice you would make in picking a supressor. I am looking at the Yankee Hill Phanton 7.62 in stainless steel. I have also contacted Noveske to see what they recommend with their barrels.

Thanks for the help and feedback.

AAC:
7.62 SD
Cyclone (barrel thread mount)

OPS INC:
12th Model (may need to have the barrel machined to fit the collar; uses a muzzle break)
3rd Model (barrel needs to be long enough for the can (20" would be fine)' barrel thread mount)

Surefire:
FA762SS (they come in dark earth too)

I think the real Canadian AR-10 SASS's have OPS INC cans, but I cant remember if it was the 12th or the 3rd Models. And out of what I posted, OPS INC's are probably the cheapest, aside from the Cyclone. Surefires (762 to 338) are about $2000.

I have a buddy with YHM's 7.62 SS can, I thought it was a tad bit louder than the above. But I could barely notice it. In other words, its all in the tone. My OPS INC 12th Model (556) can is more quiet than my Knight's NT4 (not really noticeable by ears), but the NT4 has a better tone to it which makes it sound a little bit quiet.

thanks...I really like the rifle and it comes in at .25 MOA out of the box. The gun is far superior that my lackluster skill. But I can always improve.

Your baby looks along the lines of what my best friend wants me to build for him, how much was it not including the glass and misc. parts? He wants an Armalite, I'm going to the Noveske N6 reciever.

Armalite and Noveske are both top notch. Noveske's N6 is just Armalite's AR-10 with Noveske's logo. I love Noveske's barrels. They are some of the best out there, though kinda pricey (although not as expensive as some Krieger barrels are....which are also really top notch). I have a Noveske 7.62 16" barrel that being dimpled and will be mounted on a DPMS compatible billet upper receiver. I will be putting on AAC's SCAR-H can in the future - whenever the gub'mint stops hogging them all.

If I remember corrrectly, the rifle was $3,200 without the glass, mainly because I ordered a special barrel for it.

I will be going with AAC once I move to a free state.

Gemtech, AAC, YHM, Ops Inc, Surefire are all good to go.

Okay...I am going with the Yankee Hill 7.62 Phantom..........It has a quick detach mount, and is capable of being used on both 5.56 and 7.62 rifles. It has -35 db reduction on noise and 99 percent flash elimination. Plus they have quick detach mounts for HK rifles, so I can use it on my Hk rifles......I wonder if it would work on my belt-fed Hk 21? The supressor is suppose to be full auto rated...I have a small collection of HK rifles from the G3 to MP5k-PDW and a registered sear.p-)

you did not mention sound in the top opening post. Go re-read your own, I cannot see from what you are righting that you are not talking about flash suppressors.

but your are talking about a phamtom with 35db reduction, on a 7.62, why even bother, in fact to add a sound suppressor to a 7.62 is pointless, unless you going to use subsonic ammo, sound cannot be suppressed.

here is an interesting article

read the The Supersonic Crack section.

Laconian post is a good example http://www.coastalgun.com/hear.htm

listen to the 7.62, with the suppressor, first 2 supersonic, second 2 subsonic

It still ain't pointless, though. 35dB reduction is 35dB reduction. Rifle becomes hell of a lot quieter with a suppressor. Without the negatives soiling the innards of the gun and balance I would probably shoot with suppressor most of time. It's nicer. With subsonics it just becomes insanely fun. :)

I live in a state where you can own but not shoot, I wanted a suppressor for my 223, but it not worth the price, when I am always on a budget. I have a DPMS LR308T which comes with the phantom, my rifles is no way as cool as HK in AR, his look awesome.

US supressor prices are insane. I paid 300 for mine which is compatible with my muzzlebrake/flashider. It isn't quite QD can as it screws on, but I can mount and remove it in seconds.

The Gemtech do a 308 suppressor for $875, it can be used with there QD Phantom flash hider. Make a nice combo. http://www.gem-tech.com/HVT.html

for 5.56 I was looking at helo (http://www.gem-tech.com/HALO.html) which mounts on a standard birdcage flash hider, cost $725.

There is a huge difference in the sound level between a suppressed and unsuppressed 7.62x51mm (or any other rifle caliber) weapon, particularly to the shooter and those around him. It not only eliminates the muzzle blast, but also reduces recoil and prevents dirt and other assorted crap from getting kicked up in your face. You really have to fire one suppressed and unsuppressed to appreciate the difference, but it is well worth it.

Wildcat, maybe you are correct, but my first post was talking about the phantom 7.62, which I assumed most knew it was a sound supressor. I have access to subsonic .308, .223, 9mm, and .22lr. So yes, I was going for both maximum noise reduction using this type of ammo and using match grade ammo with the noise reduction for other situations. I have shot R700 rilfes with sound supressors, and even with match ammo there is a noticeable difference in the noise of the rifle. I can shoot it without any hearing protection. With a gemtech supressor on my MP5, even on full auto it is very quiet, and you can shoot without any hearing protection.

I don't understand how a state law can allow you to own them, but not use them...makes no sense at all.

Because the way the law is written in Washington State, it state you can not use the, but does not bar the ownership, any who you still have to go thought the $200 fed approval.
