I donīt want to start a discussion whatīs the best 5.56 rifle but why does the SIG have such a good reputation? As far as I know it was never tested in combat and the concept is similar to the AK. Is it Swiss precision?

Not sure how familiar you are with the internals of an AK but they very similar in fact:

As far as it being the best, I think this sort of thing has been discussed as nauseum here. It's not the gun, it's the user that matters most. That being said, the SIG 550 is simple, reliable, and accurate...it is a good rifle.

The SIG SG series are build like a swiss watch, precise, fine instrument. It is a pleasure to shoot and hold. that being said...It is the finest AK one can own or buy, but not sure if it is the best Assault rifle in the world...

My experience with a SIG 550 left me very impressed..........one of the smoothest shooters out there, but to say it is the best....just opens a can of worms. The one thing I loved most about the rifle is how easy it is to clean.

No way! My Tec-9 with the Tapco barrel shroud is way more popular with all my homies in the trailer park.

I have a SIG 551 SWAT and I must say that it's a very good quality rifle. It's accurate, reliable, easy to clean and good looking:). I bought mine for about 2000 euro two years ago. It comes standard with 2 x 20-round magazines, a manual, cleaning kit, sling, loading tool and a rifle case.
Maybe one downside is that parts for a SIG aren't cheap, a 30-round magazine will cost you about 75 euro a piece:-(. Same thing for picatinny rails and stuff like that, hard to find and expensive.
I know it is (or has been) used by some European police swat units (GIGN, RAID, SEK, GSG-9...) so if these guys are using it, it must be good:)

As others said, it is reliable and extremely accurate for an assault rifle. As such it's a fine piece of machinery in the very sense of the word "fine".
However IMO there's no such thing as the best rifle. Many are good, some better than the others in some aspects, but no one can be inarbitrarily labeled the best one.

Oh man that made me laugh. It also made me think of that picture of the bloke in the purple hoodie posing with a gun and some weights that say authority on them.

you get what you pay for swiss don't make rubbish rifles although there 7.62 is very heavy while the swiss whine about it.
unless your the UK Mod who manage to get the A2 its a very good rifle now.
but you could probably buy a selection of other 5,56 rifles and gadets for the cost of one A2
